Well I mean in New Leaf those things took a day to build

Always felt longer to me given how much money you had to pump into public work projects.

...say, on that note can Amenities be moved once they're built (like furniture) or do you have to deconstruct them and then rebuild from scratch (like PWPs?)

3 real-time days for a swimming pool though?

(OK IRL those things take longer to build than that but yeah.)

Also does Cyrus not have any employees? He should really get some workers.

I wonder if the Switch title will use the customization of HHD and the mobile game. I know a lot of people prefer it, but I like Animal Crossing's question based customization.

It takes something like 2-4 real time months to build up everything in New Leaf, since basically everything is real time gated. AC's a game you play in bite sizes.

[up] New Leaf is too slow. I brought it this year and the first two or three weeks were awful. There was barely anything to do. The previous games weren't so slow.

[up][up][up]I don't think Nintendo could get away with lacking skintone options these days, so I'm guessing the next mainline Animal Crossing will have character customization like HHD and this forthcoming game.

I mean, I guess they could have the personality quiz and the ability to choose darker skintones, but I can't think of a way for Rover or Kapp'n or whoever to ask about skintone without it sounding a little awkward.

"Excuse me, I'm blind. Can you tell me how dark your skin is? I want to know whether or not I can make racist jokes around you."

[up]I like New Leaf, but I don't disagree. Hopefully the next game won't have such a slow dripfeed of new mechanics.

[up] Oh geez, I can just imagine. Especially since sometimes the games aren't that direct about it in the first place.

"How well-cooked do you like your steak?"

-cue flood of Internet rage from light-skinned people who like their steak well-done, dark-skinned people who like their steak rare, and people who don't eat steak in the first place-

Yeah, there's not any good way to incorporate skin tone into indirect questions like that without it being either awkward or too far removed from what's being asked. Especially because skin tone is a lot more personal than stuff like eye shapes or the hairstyle you start with.

Just ask if you’re more of an indoors or outdoors type. It’s not realistic but indoors type can lead to paler skin and outdoors darker.

You literally had to tan in New Leaf to be dark skinned, too.

And it wore off after a while.

Maybe have an option for both a la the more recent Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games?

Like, have Rover ask you to fill out a paper asking about physical details (if you want to just go straight into designing your avatar) and if you decline he'll just nod his head and do the usual small talk questionnaire instead.

What about having an artist character say something like "Let's see if I can guess what you look like" and proceed to draw you based on a series of questions, or just give a randomized result that you can correct if necessary?

Edit: I just saw a video on Youtube that showed the character customization screens. It looks like a pretty standard character customization process - gender, eyes, skin tone, hair color, and hair style.

So I managed to get the app since it arrived early in Australia. I won't spoil anything, but I can tell you that I'm having so much fun so far.

I was hoping that Nintendo would implement skin-tones using the quizs. I've discussed this on other forums and there are many ways to do it, such as one example where someone mentioned Kapp'n or Rover making you pick a bandage. However, by far, the easiest route would be to just delete the current customization system and use the simplified HHD variant. It doesn't have the same charm but it's less annoying for players.

[up][up][up][up] New Leaf made tanning too hard. They made it more realistic but ultimately just made it annoying. I don't like my character to be light-skinned yet at the same time I have no patience to sit around for a week trying to give them a tan.

Just a bit of a thought: I see people say that the dialogue of Animal Crossing: New Leaf is weaker than in the previous games, since characters like snooty and cranky villagers are far nicer than their previous game counterparts. I can understand why some people think that way since characters like those two have always been established to be less friendly.

But what if there was a way to justify the niceness of the dialogue in New Leaf? I always had this thought that New Leaf is a sequel to all of the first three games before it. Before then, all of the games played out the same. Tom Nook doesn't like his job much, Kapp'n was always lonely, Mabel and Sable only had each other while Labelle ran away, Kicks was homeless, etc.. Now all of these characters got their happy endings in New Leaf and they're feeling a lot better as a result. Maybe in all of those years, snooty and cranky villagers also realise that they can't always be acting the way they used to be, so because of that they had to get better alongside with the other characters mentioned previously. And since you play as the mayor in New Leaf, it's only natural that villagers will be nicer to you since you're the higher authority around these parts.

Maybe the games aren't the same without the snark and the variety, but I feel like New Leaf's dialogue is overhated.

[up] New Leaf does seem to be setting itself up as a sequel to previous games, thus the characters being toned down can be written as Character Development. I still hate it from a meta standpoint.

Grumpy villagers are way too friendly in New Leaf. It's annoying. I remember being so happy when Lobo appeared in my town, but he's so toned dowb compared to in 1x. I just end up avoiding him because he's not fun. Grumpy villagers were funnier than they were, well, grumpy middle-aged men.

Seems like Pocket Camp is out in some regions early, though I’ve heard that there were server issues at the moment.

I got a question for anyone’s who played it — is it possible to make your character a cross-dresser like in New Leaf?

So, Pocket Camp. Downloaded it because I wanted a non-gacha mobile game to try. Not sure if I'll stick with it long-term, but I'm enjoying it so far. It's relaxing just collecting stuff, chatting with villagers, and crafting furniture. Seems odd that fishing and bug catching seem to be unlimited while fruits are time locked, but it gives you something to always do I guess.

Game is off to an excellent start, especially in Japan, so this is going to be supported for a long time.

Are there any elements of PC that seem like they will most likely return in the Switch title?

I could see the birds running the camper services returning somehow. and maybe the ability to do a fan dance, like I see some animals doing on occasion.

I think I'm getting to the point that furniture is costing more than 3 minutes to complete.

[up][up]Animals interacting with your amenities/public works, please.

Although, considering how much the animals talk about how much they love my camp and how there's always stuff to do it's a bit strange that they seem to spend 90% of their time sleeping on my furniture.

It looks like Pocket Camp was originally going to be a mostly menu based city building simulator, but Nintendo thought it wasn't interesting enough. That's why it got delayed back when it was announced.

[up] Fascinating.

I've been playing the Gamecube AC a lot and, I'm probably in a huge minority here, but I want the old style Fetch Quests back. Wild World was terribly boring because the quests were so simple and bland. New Leaf improved upon it however they're still too brief. They take like two minutes to complete. It's more fun when you have to run around everywhere.
