...He does realize that a reinvasion would throw oil production in the region into chaos, thus sending gas prices even higher, yes?

What a stupid fuck, "re-invade" Kuwait? The only time we've ever invaded Kuwait was when we occupied parts of it to remove the Iraqi's during desert storm. Kuwait love the US, why would we invade one of our most staunch allies in the middle east?

And as for Iraq? For better or worse, it's done.. Let's just wash our hands of it and move on already.. We have enough on our plate with Afghanistan.

That is probably the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

I can actually hear the Iraqi's from here

"Yes, we should totally give you all our oil for blowing up my entire family and home."

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

I think Hannity is counting on his viewers assuming that the Middle East is one giant, homogeneous country filled with nothing but America-hating, Islamofascist, Arab terrorists sitting on a single titanic oil deposit.

Groovy.

Uggh.

They are pretty cool with the US because the Kurds have freedom of religion, and also have both Sunni and Shia at an almost 50-50 ratio who co-exist rather peacefully. Something that the US really admires, and the freedom of religion aspect being a common bond.

Islam is the state religion, but they don't persecute the significant populations of Jews, Christians, and Hindus.

(They also have really gorgeous women, something we all should be protecting!)

If the Mosque fiasco is any indication, I cant help but worry that most people dont give two flying flips about the details of Islam.

If its Islamic, its bad. That sadly seems to be the common mindset.

Err, not the Kurds, but the Kuwaiti's.

I think I had desert storm on the brain and that's why I said kurds.

But yeah, they are a very progressive middle eastern country that isn't anywhere close to letting religious dogma dictate their government policy, which is awesome.

Courtesy of the second-highest fuel tax on Earth, UK petrol prices are currently at ~8.16$ per gallon. Please stop bitching, Sean, you've got it pretty good.

If gas was that high in America...

Shit I don't know, there might be riots even.

But also remember, England is TINY compared to America. Commutes are long, getting anywhere takes a lot of gas, gas prices affect Americans a lot more simply on virtue of distance traveled.

What are #2 diesel prices like in the UK right now? I know diesel is a lot more popular there for things that aren't trucks.

Christ, diesel's even worse. Depending on the company, stick an extra 12p/litre (70c/gallon) on top of that. I drive a diesel car, too, so buying fuel is an emotional experience for me.

England pays a lot in fuel tax, and hell's I am not actually upset by that. Its just that I wish that money was spent on public transport instead of fucking hauliers.

Anyway offtopic, this seems like a truly daft thing to do.

So the reason England has such high fuel prices is because their government taxes fuel so heavily?

MajorTom Since: Dec, 2009
#24: Jan 16th 2011 at 4:04:05 PM

^ Yep. Same reason why gas is more expensive on the continent too. Euros love taxing gasoline to death. Then again most people wouldn't notice it what with Europe largely being quite crowded together.

JosefBugman Since: Nov, 2009

Yep, the government taxes it highly because it damages the environment and everywhere is pretty much reachable by bus or train. It may take a bit of extra planning beforehand, but you can get pretty much anywhere here by Bus or Train.

In my case I just want to see the money they reap from Fuel tax funneled into public transport to make it better. At the moment I am paying way too much in train fare duties despite the fact that the rail companies are acting as (essentially) regional monopolies and the taxpayer is footing the bill for the majority of the expensive repair work that has to be done.
