Manga/Toriko

I'm just glad he is useful. For a while in the manga he had no real point. It didn't seem like he was even much better of a chef than Toriko until after the Century Soup arc stuff. I guess he always could have been, but he just never showed those skills until then.

Also this reminded me of Duval.

Kind of a filler, but HOLY SHIT STAIJUN.

So what are the odds on him pulling a Heel–Face Turn? I am rate them as pretty good.

How does it qualify as the worst possible reunion when Staajun didn't do anything?

Because both Komatsu and Toriko soiled themselves. It smells horrendous there.

im hoping a dub can be done for this show one day. funimation seems to have a good relationship with toei, so most likely they will get dibs on it.

That wiki needs a lot of work done they don't have any arcs past the Gourmet Colosseum in their list of the arcs.

This was interesting, and the population of the Toriko world must be huge if 9 billion people come there. I assume over a year long peroid, but if it's a day their world population must be in the trillions.

Yeah, I think Toriko's planet is a lot bigger than Earth if it has to sustain all those various (and often times enormous) species of lifeforms, which number in the millions.

well this entire world does revolve around food so at least it makes sense. also this series never fails to make me hungry even if i just ate, it boggles my mind

Food stopped a Century long war and provides superpowers to people. I would expect that it would be quite revered.

Just read the first chapter for this series. Not sure how I feel about it.

I'm confused by your statement. You read the first chapter but something on page 146 scared you? Do you mean volume?

I read the first chapter, but I have the habit of randomly checking mangastream even when I know they don't have any new chapters out for things I'm reading and since mangastream always shows the first page of the current newest chapter, I saw that page.

I think you might. It depends on why you didn't really enjoy the first chapter. If you disliked its premise, or characters most likely not. If it was the execution of the plot I would say yes.

The series never pulls back from it's basic idea in fact it just hits it harder as time goes on. It executes the idea always in unique ways and it has better plots, more in depth characterization and characters as time goes on. It does not change who it is. It does get better at showing it though.

I normally give a new series ten chapters or so to see if I like it so I suggest that to other people as well. I'm sure you have your own rule of thumb though.

It's not that I disliked the first chapter, but rather that didn't really grab me interest other than being an interesting premise. It wasn't bad and I didn't dislike the characters. Wasn't particularly attached to them, but hey it's the first chapter. The premise does strike me as absurd, but I don't mind absurdity as a general rule. Just depends on how well they pull it off.

The thing that surprised me the most was the setting. I read the One Piece crossover for the heck of it before reading the first chapter. and it seemed to to me that the timeline in Toriko would be a fantasy setting sometime in the past instead of being relatively close to our time.

It's really kind of a "Huh. I guess I'll see where this goes" feeling more than anything.

My rule of thumbs is that if it can cold my interest through the first chapter (which it did), then I'll keep reading until it no longer holds my interest, given a very broad definition for holding my interest, with one exception to this rule however.

Well if you liked the premise then I think you will warm up to it as time goes on. I think I was about the same place as you when I read the first chapter. The world still feels very One Pieceish even though it is set in modern times or a bit ahead.

I give myself the ten chapter thing because if I don't really think about I will archive binge an entire series then decide I don't like it. I think that's a waste of time so the ten chapter thing is really to catch my breath and gauge my own opinion.
