OK, elaborating: Drunk, I am saying "Don't be an asshole". And you are saying, "Don't be a whiny pussy". More or less. Correct?
Because I'm not saying "Be a whiny pussy", and unless I'm mistaken, you aren't saying "Be an asshole", either.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The Staff@KCK: ah, my old rival...I was wondering when you'd show up. So tell me; why should I care what people who've never met me think of my opinions?
@Bobby: but the arguments are supposed to change each round, and I've heard the same arguments since I was 13 and none of them fucking work...
EDIT @ Bobby: pretty much. I'm sick of whiny pussies and I'm also sick of assholes. I'm just more sick of the whiny pussies.

If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Then why should we care about your opinions? Not much point in telling someone you'll never see again to watch their mouth or whatever, but if it's a person you have to interact with again...
Suddenly, I'm reminded of Tnu's wangst.
this is an extention of the topic under discussion.
You refuse to offer any new points until the other side offers theirs.
The other side vice versas this.
What does this tell you?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.@Drunk Because you may know them eventually.
There's no justice in the world and there never was~@KCK: So, they can get to know me or not bother. Doesn't change my original argument; one should not care what the rest of the world thinks of them, or at least come as close to that as they can manage.
Anything else is a waste of time.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~@Drunk When your very livelihood depends on what the world thinks of you, that's not an easy task.
There's no justice in the world and there never was~Then by that logic, you shouldn't care when people take action towards calling you out or stopping you/ excluding you from the equation altogether. Just let it slide. They don't matter.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Human beings are social animals. It's impossible to not care what anyone thinks of you.
Stangers, yes, maybe you can divorce yourself from their opinions with some effort. But if your friends and loved ones think you're a waste of space, of course you're going to care. There'd be something wrong if you didn't.
Be not afraid...@KCK: To what situation are you referring?
@Loni: Yes, I draw a distinction between what a stranger thinks and what a person you care about thinks. I believe I've mentioned that.
By all means, care about the people who matter and their opinions. To be sure, my behavior is modified by the people I care about. But people modify their behavior around total strangers who don't matter, and I think that's freakin' silly.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Well, what about friends, then? If a friend says something offensive to you, are you allowed to feel hurt then?
Be not afraid...I think that's the problem, actually. As far as forum going is concerned, you're no stranger. You're an acquaintance by now. We're getting to know you and everyone else who frequents here more and more, the more they post here. We will have to deal with other forum goers here every single time we're here. Just because we're not in meatspace doesn't mean we can dismiss each other.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.^^Why would you feel hurt by something your friend says? If you know them well enough to be friends you should be immune to most of the stuff that comes out of their mouth.

@drunk: As I have said, you do care about what strangers think of you. In public, do you go around screaming at people and causing chaos? I doubt it. Most likely you have some kind of common courtesy. You care about what strangers think of you and you don't even realize it.
If we all went around not caring what anyone thought of us society would collapse.

"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of Time@Kino Well, sometimes friends get into arguments and then mud-slinging starts...
There's no justice in the world and there never was~I don't mean joking around sort of insults. I mean them saying something that genuinely hurts your feelings.
Be not afraid...Depends on the friend, doesn't it? If M____ told me I was a faggot who needed to go die, I'd call him a cunt and that would just be normal. If L_____ told me I was a faggot who needed to go die, I'd just be confused, because that would be totally out of character. If J_____ said the same thing, I'd be offended and I'd wonder what the hell I'd done.
On the whiny pussies vs assholes thing, I'm more annoyed with the assholes, (a) because it's easier for an asshole to stop being an asshole than it is for a pussy to stop being whiny, and (b) because half the time said pussy is only whiny because said asshole is being, well, an asshole.

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The Staff@Bobby: I'm exactly the opposite. Only because the "whiny pussy's" plight is harder to overcome than the "asshole's".
I enjoy watching the underdog triumph.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~@KCK: I don't doubt that; in my case it's fists. Lucky for us we make up and go back to being friends wen we're done.
Both sides believe they're the underdog, that's the problem. It's "us vs. them", a flawed situation in itself.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.He's not going to triumph, though, is he? Because he's a pussy.
But no, I mean, if the asshole hadn't been an asshole then I wouldn't have to put up with either of them being annoying.
That's the way I see it, anyway.

Personally, I think the success rate is no indication of whether or not one should try...
