What to buy for a zombie-loving 9 year old?

My Physics teacher opened class today with this: his son has been playing Plants Vs Zombies on his computer for three weeks straight and he's starting to get bored. Any recommendations of what to buy next would be appreciated. You know, if you cared. And I know you don't. Dabblers.

I thought this would be easy, considering how popular zombies are these days, but I'm actually hitting a blank here. May the kind residents of this forum name any E/E-10+ games about the undead?

Zombies Ate My Neighbors should be appropriate.

You could also try giving him a book like The Zombie Survival Guide or World War Z, although the second one might be too violent.

A shotgun.

Oh right, you're talking about video games. I still support getting The Zombie Survival Guide.

Aren't both of those books a little mature for a nine year old. I have no problems with the kid finding a gun and blowing away people, but I'll be upset if he gets the idea that zombies are real.

Which they are but dont tell anyone.

Resident Evil 5.

Try Stubbs The Zombie.
I think, I heard about this. And if I remember correctly, it is pretty much banned from Germany, because the USK refused to give it a classification. I'm not fully aware what exactly the reasons were, but I'm pretty sure that it's an indication of how well it is suited for a kid.

...ok, do realize that it's banned in GERMANY. Violence is to Germany as to Sex is to America...

You shouldn't use a country like Germany as a standard when deciding if something is too violent or too nazi...they seem to have issues regarding those two things...

Now if the game was banned in America for being too violent, that's a whole another story...

^ Well, Steam wouldn't even let me see informationa about Stubbs until I turned 18. They don't usually do that even for M-rated games—the only other one I had that problem with was Manhunt.

If he has a DS, he could try Teenage Zombies—it's E10+, and it got reasonably good reviews.

oh right, the DS....

Little Red Riding Hoods Zombie BBQ

It's about little red and some ninja shooting zombies and zombie versions of fairy tale creatures...and the game is really easy, so even a kid can play it.

The question is does he like the game because of the zombies or because of how it's played?

EDIT: I'm looking at Stubbs the Zombie on steam and grabbing the demo... it's rated M for:

  • Blood and Gore
  • Crude Humor
  • Intense Violence
  • Sexual Themes
  • Strong Language

...so might not be the best thing for a nine-year old.

Here's a tip, don't rely on ratings.

Monster Hunter got a Teen rating because theres a drinking animation and theres a bit of blood when you attack connect with a monster's soft part. Not a lot of blood too, just a small burst of red to let you know you hit without bouncing off.

Kingdom Hearts, you know, that Disney game with Final Fantasy characters, was rated E10+ even with the censorship.

I just played the demo... if he's alright with blood I'd say it might be worth trying. Is fun. At the end of the demo the zombie is peeing into the reservoir... XD

I know not to rely on ratings. Doesn't mean you shouldn't take them into account when getting things.

EDIT: And also, I still want to know if he liked it because of the zombies or because of the gameplay.

Uh... No, not really. Not even remotely, actually. The law isn't that sensitive (if that were the case, God Of War wouldn't be uncensored here). In fact, there needs to be quite a high violence for anybody to consider something banworthy. And the fact that USK refused to classify it (which happens very, very rarely) says a lot.

And from what I saw, it is a very bloody game. Not something, I would recommend for a nine-year-old. Granted, my father had no problem playing gory games with me around, when I was a child, and it didn't harm me (I think), but still I wouldn't do that.

@The Inferno Good question; it's the zombies, according to my teacher.

I'm thankful to all of you for responding. Out of all of these suggestions, I think I'm going to go with Zombies Ate My Neighbors; would anyone know how would to buy it legally for the PC?

@JAF 1970, thank you for the suggestion, but in my original post I mentioned that he already has that game and has gotten bored of it by now.

Unless that's sarcasm, in which case I apologize for missing your point.
