I'm not saying that those aren't apt descriptors, just that many of the core concepts seem, to me, to be very much fantasy rather than scifi. A great force for good (the Traveler, though as far as I know it's never explicity referred to as being good, just powerful) has an ancient enemy known as the Darkness, and there's warriors fighting against the Darkness who are able to weild Light as a weapon. Sounds quite fantasy to me :P
Well it protected humanity when it could have just fled from the Darkness, and helped us reach the Golden Age.

So? It could be a Manipulative Bastard.
I do seriously enjoy the gameplay, despite all the balance issues.
Ever gotten a Kobe-style Nova Bomb kill (long distance by aiming up in the air)? It's the best.

"Doki Doki Lit. Club" is a happy game where nothing bad happens. seriously tho? not for the faint of heart.@Scruff: I agree; it really is a fantasy story. Mild communication error on my part I suppose, I was trying to concur with you; but now that I look at my post it really doesn't read that way.
Mostly does better things now. Key word mostly. Writes things, but you'll never find them. Or you can ask. It's all good :D I also meant to add that what we're calling 'magic' in this game could simply be Sufficently Advanced Technology.
Did it actually actively help humanity, or did we just learn things from studying it? Or did it just help us for its own ends, so that we'd protect it when the Darkness came back? As far as I know, the Traveler's motives are never touched upon.
I'm wondering about the Speaker, actually. We only have his word that he speaks for the Traveler and carries out its will.
The Speaker's also the Crucible announcer, and seems oddly enthusiastic about having you kick their asses.
I'm gonna keep optimistic and hope the alien object isn't evil.
I am wondering why the Traveler's physical form is just a moon? Or was the Traveler a humanoid being that used the moon as transportion? Hmmmm...makes me wonder what the Darkness looks like.

Well Dinklebot says that "It's armies surround us" when you talk to the Speaker, so the aliens that you fight may serve it somehow.
Looking at the Grimoire, the Hive actively worship the Darkness and the Fallen are just opportunists.
Mostly does better things now. Key word mostly. Writes things, but you'll never find them. Or you can ask.According to the TV Tropes article for Destiny, the game is reconstruction leaning heavily towards idealism on the Sliding Scale, so unless there's a late game Heel Face Turn, I don't think it will turn out the Traveler actually sinister.
On the Awoken, from what I can tell via the game wiki:
Golden Gun needs to be activated initially to use, so I wouldn't say it's OP, but if you activate it while jumping in the air, it might have the most cheesetastic animation in the game. It makes me feel like a sentai hero or something.
You know what would be nice to have on Trope articles? Weapon pages. A page dedicated to the weapons, gear, and maybe even armor within the game. Has this ever been considered? Could even have a cute little sword and board picture for the clickybits.

"That wizard came from the moon!"The Reef is actually in space. It's a bunch of wrecked starships.
Somehow the Queen is also guarded by a pair of Fallen, too.
The Reef is a collection of space wreckage, I'm pretty sure. It's in space, I know that much.
While it's mentioned, there possibly being some friendly (or at least non-hostile) Fallen is something I like.

Mostly does better things now. Key word mostly. Writes things, but you'll never find them. Or you can ask.Yeah, come to think of it; the Speaker would still be around by Level 20 to sell the Exotic Armors; it'd be a safe bet to say that he's on the side of good.
"Doki Doki Lit. Club" is a happy game where nothing bad happens. seriously tho? not for the faint of heart.Ohh... That was my second guess and makes more sense. ^^;
Any word if the game will take up outside the solar system or will the outer icy bodies probably be the extent of our travels?
Was anyone else disappointed at how quickly the beta ended? I was soloing the Spider Tank (for the second time) with my Warlock because I'm a crazy person when the beta abruptly cut off Sunday afternoon.
So favorite weapons from different classes? I think the Galahad series might be my favorite Auto Rifle series as they have extremely tight grouping and with controlled bursts you can put your bullets right where you want them, and even on full-auto, it doesn't have a great amount of spread.
"That wizard came from the moon!"I'm in love with the Cydonia AR3 (simply because it happens to have better damage than the Galahad), and I have a modifiable variant for my Titan.
I like the Pulsar series of pulse rifles, because they look cool and have reliable damage and accuracy (my Hunter has a blue/purple variant, has anyone else found one?).

"Doki Doki Lit. Club" is a happy game where nothing bad happens. seriously tho? not for the faint of heart. My brother only downloaded the Beta like Friday afternoon. It's somewhat justified because a part of our Xbox had crapped out and wasn't fixed until then, though.
My favorite gun was the Sahara AR 3. I'm not one for the "short, controlled bursts" myself.
Mostly does better things now. Key word mostly. Writes things, but you'll never find them. Or you can ask.Cydonia wasn't bad, but the stability left something to be desired. The Sahara series definitely is Dakka-licious which makes it great for mass Cherry Tapping (makes mincemeat of Spider Tanks).
As for Pulse Rifles, the PSI Tempus III (Uncommon with the Outlaw perk) is a wonderfully nasty beasty. I don't think I got a Pulsar that was less than level 9 so I could never use one, unfortunately.
The Hand Cannons, as others have mentioned, are woefully underpowered and inaccurate and are easily outclassed by pretty much all of the rifles.
On Scout Rifles, the Jigoku series is good, but I'm in love with the Mitternacht series. Just so good.
I know it might be somewhat redundant, but I was pretty surprised at the complete lack of auto pistols in the game.

"That wizard came from the moon!"I can't remember the specific names of the ones I was using (Cydonia rings a bell though), but I also prefer auto rifles and scout rifles. For my special weapon I like fusion rifles. And yeah, I can't really see why you'd choose a handcannon over a scout rifle, which is at least as accurate and fires faster. The handcannons do look kinda cool though :P
I like machine guns for my heavy weapon.
Yeah, I think I might use full-auto weapons for me. It's a shame that a hand cannon is a primary weapon though, rather than a secondary.
What's Outlaw do, by the way?
"Doki Doki Lit. Club" is a happy game where nothing bad happens. seriously tho? not for the faint of heart.Same thing as the Gunslinger's Chain of Woe without stacking: precision kills increase reload speed dramatically. And it stacks with Chain of Woe, making it ridiculous with Hunters.

"That wizard came from the moon!"
For what it's worth, I thought Bungie's description of the game as "mythic science fiction" and a "shared-world shooter" to be fairly apt.
