I was just panicking with the mention of witches in Movie three plus an indication of planning a new season. Sorry.

Witches being in the third movie fits with the hints that maybe being supreme god of hugs is a bit too much for Madoka's tiny shoulders to bear alone.

I pretty much agree with greedling about the prospects of extending the series and witches returning.

It's possible that in the third movie, witches will only be seen in flashback or something. I can't deny it, a part of me wants to see Candeloro and Ophelia, no matter how pandering or exploitative the circumstances might be.

[up]x3 No need to apologise. You're free to offer your ideas; I just prefer to examine things that I've been presented with.

[up] Well apparently Kyubey says "This is indeed the witch system you once explained me, isn’t it?" or "I'm almost certain that that's the very ability of those witches you once told me about..." or something which means probably not flashback. It has to be a new development, though.

And agreed on Ophelia and Candeloro.

[up]Well it involved Hitomi or her nightmares, a new kind of demon, maybe new ones that resemble witches? That wouldn't violate Madoka's wish, but would surely make her feel that she failed

[up][up]Hmmmm. Those lines don't sound specific enough to avert Trailers Always Lie. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Maybe. It would also help if we could actually see the visual that went along with it, although the descriptions seemed to be rather generic; maybe Aniplex will put it up after the movies finish showing in LA, if no one else manages before then. Although the description indicates it'll probably not actually be that helpful and for all we know Kyubey is presenting some coobian scientific papers from before human history or something similarly harmless.

One possibility I'm leaning towards is that there's a Pleiades-like situation. Not literally the Pleiades or the same thing that they've done, but a case of magical girls with very meta and/or flexible powers, who are trying to tinker with the system from within.

Or maybe something like Kirika in her original timeline - she slowed her own transformation so that she manifested a half-assed barrier (one that affected the real world like a familiar does, rather than sealing off its own bubble in reality) and created familiars before properly turning into a witch. Someone making a hybrid magical girl/witch, or accessing witch powers as a magical girl, or manipulating corruption in some way. Hell, it could be Homura doing it. Maybe that's what the weird wings are.

Or maybe the wraiths are starting to mutate into witch- or familiar-like forms, possibly due to Madokami's slacking.

"I think the story should outlive its creators." Damn, that's ambitious. I'm just hoping they don't spread so thin it crumbles/add things that diverge from the spirit of the franchise.

This is one of my favorite screencaps from the show. It's so... wrenching and expressive.

Also, not to polarize a beautiful image, but it really helps sell Madoka's arc for me. Her compassion for her friend has overcome her fear. She was too scared to fight witches as a magical girl, but for even the hope of saving her friend, she knowingly walks into a barrier as a frail human.

And I just noticed that the concert hall chairs aren't spreading outward like an auditorium, but papering the interior of her spherical hall. That's so unsettling. I love the surreal aspects of witch barriers... how they have this dream they're trying to hold onto, but they can't quite get it right...

[up] Recording movies in the theaters, as well as downloading the results of said recording, is piracy and wrong. That's ten years in the cubes, creep.

It's one thing to stream an anime when there's no sign of an English Release. But when the movie's coming in theaters soon I definitely think it's wrong. Besides linking pirated links is against forum rules now.

@ TSB: Also, that part of the barrier was only the upper half. There was an entire section underneath it sealed off by the floor, hidden away from Octavia's view.. That section also had what may be a Holger that looks like Kyosuke, or something that resembles him.

Is anyone else bothered by how wide Mami's skirt goes? I know magical girl outfits already disobey the laws of physics, but for some reason it really bothers me. It's so short vertically, and so large horizontally... it should be hanging down more...

Still better than Madoka's outfit.

But Madoka's width makes sense. Her skirt is puffy because there are ruffles under it.

It's a stupid thing to get hung up on and I take a lot of similar things for granted, but Mami's skirt has no reason to be so voluminous and have that particular shape.

[up] I think the real crime is how much of a Magic Skirt it is. (A crime against physics of course, not against modesty or decency or anything, because for those laws I'm quite glad it is the way it is.)

I think Magic Skirt makes more sense in this show than any others I've seen. As part of her transformation outfit it's literally a magic skirt.

I looked up the skirt of my Mami Figma to see if it held any answer to your question and then immediately felt perverse. Thanks a lot for making me do that XD And no, I still didn't get any answers.

EDIT: I guess it's possible with some kind of skirt frame...I wonder if any Mami cosplayers have managed to pull of a similar effect? I'm quite content with the 'Magic Skirt' explanation though.

I'm thinking some kind of underwire or stiff material build.

Magic Skirt explanation is all I can figure. As for why, I'm thinking less fashion, and more that she needs a big enough portal to Hammerspace to drop the rifles out of.

Also, this is a fantastic discussion. We are awesome.
