^^ Griggs had a helmet on in his first few missions. Apparently he couldn't be arsed to put it back on when he started working with Captain Price.

Polonsky didn't have a helmet either (and I usually let him die because it). Sergeant Bauer was too Badass to care.

Come to think of it, a lot of Call Of Duty characters don't wear helmets for one reason or another and I don't mean just for unique character models. (None of the SAS guys in 4 wear one. Few Ultranationalists/Quraci soldiers do.)

So I rented it today to see if it was an improvement on MW2. So far, I'm very impressed, although there are a few balance issues in multiplayer:

  • Quickscoping is back; why? It's just exploitation of auto-aim and makes even less sense than akimbo shotguns.
  • Akimbo FMG9s have a ridiculous effective range. They're machinepistols with an insane rate of fire and can still beat most assault rifles and SMGs at medium range with Steady Aim.
  • The PP90M1's damage seems a little too high. I'd increase the maximum damage range and drop it down to a four-hit kill within that range.

Quickscopiong? I'm a casual on this series. Can you explain this tatic?

I think I've seen this in some MW 2 killcams. Seeing some snipes look like they're about to aim. They fire before the scope appears...

You know how you can 'snap' to targets by aiming down your sights? That can be exploited by sniper rifles to get instant kills at close range without aiming at all.

I usually turn that off. It screws with my long range marksmanshipping.

Basically Sniper Rifles are no longer solely long range weapons.

Try as I might, I just can't succeed with sniper rifles. I usually stick with a good old assault rifle.

The lag compensation in this game is killing me. There wasn't this crap in Modern Warfare 2.

I haven't run into any yet, but the hit detection is a bit iffy at times. It makes using shotguns really difficult.

I don't use shotguns in this game. They suck.

This is my shotgun build.
*Striker with Kick and Foregrip

  • FMG-9 Akimbo
  • Lethal: Frag
  • Tactical: Flashbang
  • Perks: Sleight of Hand Pro, Hardline Pro, Dead Silence Pro
  • Specialist Strike Package: Extreme Conditioning Pro, Scavenger Pro, Steady Aim
  • Deathstreak: Juiced

This build is great for small and medium maps but you need to know them all like the back of your hand. You'll spend a lot of time running, but you'll also need to know where and when to stop and listen for enemies. A pair of good headphones really helps. Switch Hardline with Assassin or Overkill if you still want to use this build on Free-for-all.

I wish the AK was unlocked earlier. The awesomeness that is the CM 901 can only amuse me for so long.

There are hardly any weapons that get my attention in this game. It doesn't help they nerfed one of my favourite guns.

Yeah, some of the weapon choices are a little odd, and I haven't even seen some of them before, like the FAD.

True that, I'd say it was just a passing........FAD.

It's clear that they were trying to go for more exotic guns this time. The FAD was made by Argentina to be used as a personal defense weapon by tank crews, and it isn't even that popular down there due to it's odd shape and difficulty wielding it in cramped environments. Another case is the XM 25, which has been a dead project for some time now.

I completely suck at sniping back in MW2 but sniping in this game seems really easy and that's saying a lot, considering I play on the PC, which has no aim-assist. I can even reliably do quickscope panic button kills about half the time. It's mitigated slightly by the maps, which are absolutely terrible for general sniping.

Somehow, it seems that whenever shotguns get the nerf chop, Infinity Ward chops off a little too much. I know secondary shotties were a big complaint in MW2, but honestly, I now need like 2-4 shots to kill someone at close range and the shots don't even exist at medium range. The only saving grace is the Extended Mags glitch, which I hear makes the Striker (loved that gun in MW2) quite a beastly gun with the Damage proficiency.

Oddly enough, with the amount of disparaging akimbo G18s got in MW2, I'm surprised Infinity Ward made a completely ridiculous clone of it that not only does even more damage, but also has more ammo and is even unlocked extremely early...

[up][up]The FAD is Peruvian.

Last I checked though, the XM 25 is actually going into full-rate production. It's definitely one of the more interesting new weapons the Army has adopted.

[up][up]My thoughts exactly. The maps are too small to snipe properly on. Except maybe two. Robert Bowling also said the dev team would balance the machine pistols you are one about.

On the Shotgun topic, I thought they would get even better this time round. You know, because of them being primaries again. Using the AA-12 just makes me grit my teeth at times, especially the beginning.

I heard about that. What I was surprised was about how they released the game with it, then decided to patch it. It's funny how they harp about things like no akimbo models and noobtubes but still end up making the same mistakes they did back in MW2.

Personally, I'd even say that the model should have akimbo because it's so goddamn weak now. And akimbo models practically ooze awesomeness. And you can call me a heretic, but I think Scavenger should still refill tube and launcher ammo. Explosives are horribly underpowered now and they don't even have Danger Close to make up for it anymore.

Your not a heretic in my view, I think the same. They FINALLY balanced explosives in general and don't see the harm in it. Plus using the Recon perk is fun. evil grin

Yeah, I feel that explosives have great potential to be team-oriented now instead of a ragequit stopgap measure that just ends up pissing off everyone. You could run around painting the enemy team (assuming recon wan't a blue perk) or hang back murdering air support, if only you still had the old Scavenger.

By the way, if you have the patience (I don't), try getting Extended Mags for the shotties. It's currently glitched so that in addition to adding more shells to your mag, it also multiplies the pellets per shell by 1.5.
