Oh dear. As it turns out, the joke costumes do weird stuff to your stats. The crab gives you about 9,500 magic defense (most costumes will not exceed 500 at level 85) and makes your agility skyrocket to 150 (that's way above normal classes), while the Bacura costumes max both defense and magic defense, but deplete both your attack stats to 0 and your agility to 50. Complete tank!

I also apparently have Meteor Swarm now, though I have no idea where it is. It's not showing up on any of Mel's mage classes, and for some dumb reason you obtain it along Dio's Fallen Sorcerer costume, which confused me because I thought Mel had gotten the class along with the spell. Confusing! Why does that spell always have to be hidden behind an event? Philia is so badass she learns it naturally!

Oh, and news flash: Klarth has daddy issues. Everyone in Phantasia has family issues!

Holy shit, double post but the game just dropped a bunch of meteors on me (figuratively and literally), so it's justified. Apparently, I got Black Hole instead of Meteor Swarm, but it doesn't show up in the arte list unless you have a black mage class equipped. But it's a special mystic arte, so at least it's usable by all 3 levels of black mage classes instead of just the third one. And it's powerful. 70 hits! Arche's incantations are better than Mel's, now that I can tell what she's saying.

Anyway, this is hidden in a sidequest, but Arche just dropped a bomb on us: if you go to Totus, the villagers invite us for dinner and Arche suddenly runs off crying. When Dio and Mell ask her why, she says that her friends aren't supposed to be alive. Cress was supposed to have been killed by Basil, sending Mint into depression and eventual death. Klarth was supposed to drink himself to death and Suzu dies stabbing Pluto. That's the history as Arche knows it, but thanks to the twins, it was averted! Arche is now happy since she doesn't know what this future holds. Everyone notices she failed to mention Chester, to which Rondy responds that Chester is special to Arche, in a way she herself does not even know.

Way to be morbid, game. o.o

OMG, the ending narration from the play in Graces. It's the best thing ever.

Oh man, the last time I played through that part I just sat listening... and listening...Cassandra Lee's voice is so calming. Plus, that part is golden.

Okay, I'm dumb. Apparently, you get Mel's mage mystic artes by defeating the summon spirits a second time. But different spirits give you different tomes for different costumes! That's just weird. I got Meteor Swarm from Gremlin Lair, but the tome is only valid for the Alchemist costume, which I can't get yet! Booo.

And I just found something golden. Dhaos...as you have never seen him before.

That's the Fever Time cut in, right?

Is it wrong of me that it looks to me like Dhaos is heiling Hitler there? Ooer

I was playing Milla's side of Xillia again. I still really prefer Jude's side, but her conversations with the other protagonists before heading to stop Nachtigal were quite interesting. I like that she casually disregards Alvin's whole "For all you know I could be planning to kill you." speech. Considering that she's the most powerful party member outside of maybe Rowen (At that point in the storyline anyway), she could easily kill Alvin if she needed to.

And now the drama in Fennmont's happened and it's off to Fezebel Marsh. I might just beat Xillia before August.

As it turns out, I had enough costumes to get Alchemist. Meteor Swarm is miiiiine. Incidentally, I think NDX's developers were Vesperia fans. There's the guild that gives you extra costumes if you gather enough (in Vesperia they combined attachments), Patty and Karol dolls as Wonder Chef disguises, the Rondy-Mystic Arte skit, Tarlow X and the Hunting Blades guild that buy the monsters you capture. References!

Okay so how come the PS 3 Symphonia 2 gets to be at 60 frames per second while Symph 1 is stuck at 30?

Also this version should have had an unlockable ability to change Emil's model to his starting outfit pyjama set or Aster.

The PS 3 version of Symphonia is an HD port of the PS 2 version, which was locked at 30 frames. Symphonia 2 is a port of the Wii version which didn't have that restriction.

Apparently the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS 2 so that has something to do with it?

But isn't the PS 3 more powerful than both of them?

You assume Namco cared enough to make adjustments. The gamecode is basically copy-pasted from the PS 2 with the cameo costumes and trophies added. The english release, which actually added stuff like new audio files was mangled as well because the game doesn't recognise where the files are. That's why Unisons like Gugnir are silent in English even though they're voiced in Japanese and the new Mystic Artes can barely be heard.

Anyway, lazy porting is your answer.

I still think adding the Aster and Chapter 1 Emil costumes to 2 might have been nice.

So I just got my first paycheck and I'm thinking about buying To S Chronicles as my first Tales game. Should I?

It's a good introduction to the series, but keep in mind the gameplay is dated. Don't go expecting something fast paced like Lightning Returns. Oh, and the beginning is kinda slow.

go for it. TOS 2 is kinda slow starting and doesn't make a good first impression. Doubt you're gonna go gay for Emil like I did either

On one hand Green Emil is adorable and kind but he has some self esteem issues and can be a bit of a...catcher.

On the other, Red Emil/Ratatosk is rough and tough, but while some like it hot, one who plays so close to the fire cannot fail but be burned (Thanks Alucard)

Endgame Green Emil is the best of both worlds. Sweet, but not a total pushover.
