The original Metroid and Return of Samus have both aged considerably. They were due for a remake. Super Metroid on the other hand has aged beautifully and still stands as a testament to good game design.
Yeah you could port Super Metroid over unchanged and it would be just as modern.
Maybe add in a better scan, but that's it.
It's also a testament to the SNES's graphics and good sprite work.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? It's level design is top notch. Controls could stand to be improved in many ways, though I imagine people used to it would not like any control changes.
Well...the entire basis of them remaking Metroid II was because they felt there was a need to update this game as oppose to initial plans to work on a remake of Fusion.
Seems like Super is just off the cards.
Oh, wait. there is one thing they could do to improve Super Metroid. They could map the jump and shoot buttons to B and Y like every other game on the system! Seriously, why would you map your two basic functions to A and X?! I mean, I know you can change them, but still.
Yeah the controls of super metroid could use some improvement, but that's about it. For anyone who ever plan to replay the game one day, I'd reccomand the romhack Project Base : it'es basically the exact same game plus one or two room redesigned, and a control scheme massively impoved : you can ballspark, conserve shinespark by dahsing in a slope, shinespark is easier to do,basically everything that are standard controls from fusion and zero mission plus other cool stuff like being able to spinjump without holding any directions, backflip move, etc. It's not the absolute answer but it solve a good 80-90% of what you could take issue with the orginal controls. So yeah, when a romhack can easily fix what's has aged the worst in the game, I don't believe in the point of a remake.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Just add customizable control and voila.
Maybe tweak Meridia a bit and gives modern markups to the maps.
Where there's life, there's hope. The controls are customizable. Even in the original game, they're customizable.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I wouldn't mind a remake if only so I can actually play it because I never had a SNES
Oh really when?Don't you have a Wii or Wii U?
Where there's life, there's hope.Not anymore, no.
Oh really when? It's also on 3DS.
It is?
Oh really when?New 3DS exclusive.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Give it time. It should be on the Switch eventually as well.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!It is also on SNES classic right?
Where there's life, there's hope.Sakamoto will never make another Metroid remake unless he believes it can be improved substantially that it would be considered a brand new game altogether. That's why Zero Mission and Samus Returns exist and why Sakamoto didn't bother doing Return of Samus DX like Link's Awakening for the Gameboy Color. So I don't see Super Metroid being remade considering that they'll be little improvements to made.
Because of this, we are more likely to see a Metroid remake of a game that either hasn't aged well or has enough room for improvement to be considered a different game altogether. And as we can see with Metroid Zero Mission and Samus Returns, the remake will take advantage of the new features (such as the bottom screen for maps) and accessible buttons (which allowed Samus to do more than just run, jump, and shoot).
I'm sure you have a Metroid game in mind for that...
Finally, Another M can become canon.
It's...already canon though.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Super is on the SNES Classic, yes. Though you'll have to deal with a little lag, which might not exist on the 3DS version? (Seriously I don't know.)
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I am hyped for the possibility of fighting one of the Rogue Warrior Chozo in a future Metroid game. Let's see what a True Warrior Chozo can do.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Well we've seen what one can do in several games now
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt would definitely be the greatest test of Samus's skills, to pit herself against a rogue Chozo trained in the caste of the Warrior as she is.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!
Super Metroid is already basically a perfect game. I have no idea what a remake could do other than making it 2.5D.
