2D is what I'd prefer, and it would make more financial sense to put on of those on the 3DS. But I'd take whatever honestly.
What there NEEDS to be is a 4D Metroid game. It'd be like in Echoes where parts of Dark Aether were visible on Light Aether—in a 4D you could slightly shift between dimensions to attack enemies, dodge attacks, interact with objects, and the like.
...or, a 1D Metroid game where it's just Samus running through a long-corridor, shooting beams at flat enemies, curling into a 0-dimensional Morph Ball to dodge...something like this. ;p
So to clarify, you can only play this with the wiimote?
Yes, you can only play the Trilogy with the Wiimote/Nunchuck. They're excellent anyway, so no complaints from me.
Well fuck. I forgot my sensor bar at home , and even tho it was sent in the mail today and the package arrived, the post office is closed so I have to wait because of CONTRIVED BS
It's gonna be worth the wait- If nothing else, the point-and-shoot controls make Echoes significantly less of a nightmare.
I sure said that!I honesty thought Other M's gameplay was pretty much a disaster as well, the controls were painfully bad. The concentration system and the missiles stood out as particularly awful.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Honestly, I actually found the controls to be pretty solid overall. While I did find the concentration system to be rather wonky, I really dug the faster action that the game allowed. Once I got the handle on the dodging mechanic, I found the gameplay to really start opening up after that.
At the very least, it showed how physically strong Samus can be in her suit (wish I could say the same for her, emotionally XD).
I personally would like another 1st Person Metroid title, but not necessarily another Prime (though that's totally fine, too). I wouldn't mind a new 2-D Metroid either, on the 3DS. If anything, it could be like with Fusion and Prime, and they could have a Wii U game and a 3DS game come out at the same time, or near enough. The more good Metroid games, the better.
What about a first-person 2D game?
Oooooooh.
That just makes me think of Doom and Wolfenstein. Or those old NES games that tried to replicate moving in 3D while just using 2D sprites.
A 2D game in first person? I have no idea how that would even begin to work.
Ignoring those games since you're moving in three dimensions.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Sorry. I just think "sprites" when I hear 2D lately, which was what I based my comment on.

I've got the trilogy disc, and I've been replaying Echos recently. Does anyone know if save files transfer between the Wii version and the eshop version?
Because if so $13 is pretty nice for the ability to use the internet browser and not having to use the disc.
Also how does the game work with those MP 3 tokens that you needed wifi to get?
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobWow... I'm surprised at how reasonable people are here.
Everyone here seems to agree that they want "Prime 2.0" (the same vein as "Melee 2.0", "Brawl 2.0", or [my personally used] "Mario 64 2.0"), but not really a direct sequel to the Prime trilogy.
It's just that it seems like a lot of people want everything from Phazon to Prime/Dark Samus to return somehow.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I wanna see Sylux come back, whoever they are there's a good recurring character there. I can feel it.
And Weavel for that matter.
Oh really when?I think most people just want a new game in the series that's as good as either versions of Metroid, be it Prime or the 2D games.
I wish I could get the Trilogy but I don't own a Wii U so... here's hoping it stays at $10 for a long time...
@Zelenal,
My first thought was an old SNES game I had, Tin Star. But that wasn't first person 2D either. It was a 2D game in which your cursor was the aim and the character moved by itself but only shoot when you commanded (it was probably originally an arcade game). That was a shooter game, for sure, but hardly first person.
Yeah, an actual 2D game in first person seems bizarre. Maybe some top down game? Like, you control a satellite and shoot at things on earth. The camera is from the satellite, so it is first person. But you pretty much can only move on a 2D plane, so it is 2D. Not that this relates to Metroid or whatsoever.
Anyway, my ideal next Metroid game would be a classic 2D metroidvania sequel to Fusion. I personaly would rather not have Prime gameplay again, thank you very much.

A 1st-person 2D game would have only one dimension of vision. It'd be like being A Square in Flatland.
x5 @Wax
Yeah, I think it's because we're Tropers. Most of us get that the 3 Act story that Prime told is kaput, and that they'll need to go with something new in the next game, even if the game plays like Prime.
Also, I agree that Sylux should come back. Hell, any of the Hunters from MPH would be great to see again. I thought they were all pretty cool, even though Rundas stole some of Noxus' theme as An Ice Person.

Yeah, trying to imagine 1st Person in a 2D game is breaking my mind. I mean, you could make the environment 3D and just lock the player's movement to a 2D plane but what fun would that be?
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Ever played Power Slave? That's a good game that managed 1st person Metroid Vania gameplay in a 2D setting.
Yeah, I agree that the "Metroid Prime" trilogy is done and the story of Phazon is wrapped up, but I would also like to see new games that are still in the same gameplay style. Like, a second trilogy, or just some standalone games, or something.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Sylux, Sylux, Sylux. So many great ways you could take that character.
A weird thing I want to see in the Metroid-verse is simply destructible environments. No, it wouldn't really work for the tight corridors and exploration gameplay the series is known for... But a the same time I would just love to fire the super missile and see an entire office building implode or something.
Bleye knows Sabers.
I want to see post-Fusion that definitely doesn't go the route of 'well now samus isn't part metroid because that plot device ran its course'
