Every culture has some misogynistic aspects. Japan itself isn't really the issue here.
^^Iga's Castlevania's are less about collecting items to proceed and more about rpg ish combat where you level up and get better weapons or otherwise all enemies are bullet sponges <_<

Maybe let Retro Studios have another shot if nothing else. Or Miyamoto since he helped with Prime and THAT WAS THE FUCKING BEST
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowI kind of want Next Level Games to have a shot at it. I think a western developer would understand why we like the series better, and they've proven themselves with Punch Out and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Plus we've seen concept art that indicates they were working on it before Dark Moon.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Next Level Games could be neat. Worth a shot.
I wouldn't mind Miyamoto, Retro, or Platinum giving it a shot either.
Again, to what extent did Miyamoto "help" with Prime?.................
Heck, Sakamoto's supervision didn't "ruin" Prime games, so why would Miyamoto's "help" be the important part?
And fricking darn it, Platinum makes over the top action games, you guys want Metroid to be over the top action game? The hell?

Well hey, I wouldn't mind seeing a different sort of Metroid game. Imagine having the exploration and item discovery alongside the over the top action.
Also it was Miyamoto that led to Prime being in first-person.
Also, if they weren't a subsidiary of Zenimax, I wouldn't mind letting Machine Games have a go at it.

How about if Nintendo EAD, Retro, and NLG all collaborated?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I love Metroid, but I'd rather not they dedicate that many resources to one game.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.^^^Doesn't mean much :P
Plus 1!
Seriously, making it all about how misogynistic Japan is kind of pushes the problem off on them, when it's really broader than that.

Not to mention it's sorta hypocritical to make a bigoted statement about a group being bigoted.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The difference is that Japan is still culturally Confucian, and this reflects in their media all the time. Everything about Japan, even its language, is designed with the idea that women sit on a lower hierarchy than men do, and even day-to-day interaction reinforces this, such as the way women bow to strangers versus men. Other M was rife with Confucian values (such as Samus feeling she wronged Adam by walking out on him, which is a huge no-no in Japan) to the point that it's nearly impossible to tell how the story would have been different without it.

What amazes me is that, when Rare got the series, they interviewed Sakamoto in regards to Samus' character and what Sakamoto described was exactly how everyone in the fandom views her. It's like Sakamoto accidentally took his crazy pills for Other M or something. I'm no longer made about it, just confused.

I have a message from another time...So yeah, I wouldn't really call Japan a sexist society. Heck, it appears that more and more natives of that country are beginning to go against the traditional gender molds. And considering that the reception of Other M in Japan was about the same as over here, looks like they too didn't agree with the characterization either.
As for Sakamoto, I just feel that he was trying too hard to make her sympathetic. He really wanted to make her more human and relatable, but went too far in that direction. Guess some of the causes of Magnum Opus Dissonance were in play.

Is it possible to talk about Metroid at all without bringing up Values Dissonance anymore?
EDIT: Huh. Quite the pagetopper.

What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King SageNo. I'm pretty sure trying to do so is considered a crime literally everywhere. And I'm using the word "literally" quite correctly.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The country is changing, but it's getting a lot of resistance, too. There's a lot about the culture that still places women into extremely narrow, stereotypical roles. Also, it seemed like some of the outrage about Other M came from what one fan called making Samus into "an 'ordinary woman'". So take that as you will.
...I mean, I'd say every society is a sexist society. Certainly most of them. At least partially. Often in different ways.

They're all sexist, it's just that simply placing the label of sexist on something ignores the possibility of more complicated social issues being the root instead of base misogyny. Japan has a lot of work to do, but so does everyone else, and the methods are inevitably going to be different because the root problems aren't quite the same.
I sure said that! What Pulse said.
Maybe that means that they also preferred the whole idea of her character that seems to be based on her previously stoic badass self?
So anyway, does any culture were women are not discriminated(or at least its men who were lower on social hierarchy?) to some extend exist anymore nowadays?
I mean, I know such cultures did use to exist in some places at least :P I just don't know if they exists anymore

I know. I'm a big fan of IGA's Castlevania games. Also, while the combat is very different, the way the exploration works is exactly the same: You're thrown into a very large area/series of areas and you can only access certain places. As you explore, you get new abilities which let you go to more places which let you get even more abilities which let you go to even more places.
That describes both IGA's Castlevania games and the Metroid games. Thus it describes every game in the Metroidvania genre.
