Why won't congress vote on the Zadroga bill?

Context: The Zadroga bill is a bill that would pay 9/11 responders over 7 billion dollars for health related expenses, and would be funded by closing a corporate tax loophole.

What seems odd to me (with a few other choice words thrown in) is that the Republicans, the party of 9/11, filibustered the damn bill, so they could get the tax cut extension through (and now want to go on christmas break)! Why the hell is this happening?

Also, why is the media not reporting on this (aside from Fox News blasting congress for filibustering the bill, but not mentioning it was republicans doing the filibustering)? The only reason I've heard of this is because the Daily Show started belting on about it.

The GOP's behavior doesn't surprise me. They made their priorities clear long ago. What really disappoints me about this whole thing is that the best coverage the American people can get for it is on freaking Comedy Central. Whatever happened to holding news organizations accountable for honest and insightful reporting? Whatever happened to having standards in news? Or did we never have any to begin with, and am I only just now realizing that fact?

Either way it's depressing as hell.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

Why won't the Senate vote on it? Because they can't. It's been sitting in the Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions committee since June 29th of 2009. They finally got around to holding hearings about it in June of 2010. The Senate as a whole can't vote on it until it's released from committee. The House version has already passed.
