So, iI have got two letters from this organisation the past few months, one to go to japan, and one for Europe. Is this legit, and how exactly are people nominated? have any of you've been picked?

I've never heard of these people before.

Were the letters completely out of the blue? Does the organization require you to pay money to go? Those would make me suspicious.

It looks like people are nominated by people who know them. I clicked the "Nominate a Student" tab. So you probably should ask around with teachers, family members, etc. if they nominated you.

Completely out of the blue, and it requires money. Other friends of mine have gotten the letters, but only the smart ones. I have no idea why they chose me, apparently a teacher chose me. Maybe because i was in the Gifted and Talented program in Elementary...

I know nobody in my family nominated me but there is my English teacher from last year, I will ask her.

General rule is 1: If it wants money it's a scam 2: If it's free its a scam.

If they can't even tell you who nominated you, why trust them?

Involve as many people as possible in the discussion to determine if it is a scam and don't give any money out because that's extremely suspicious. If you get duped and you only wasted some of your time, no big deal. If you get duped and you lost a thousand bucks, that's terrible.

[up]My sister received one of these, my parents didn't want her to go. Now I'm glad she didn't go, it would have scammed my family.

My advice to you, cutewithoutthe, trash it as De Marquis pointed out, it's a scam.

I've had friends who went. I don't think it's really a scam. I never went, though. I was busy (sad or grin?)

Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.

Read through some of the comments and while I wouldn't exactly call it a scam, it is still a questionable service. I only would go there if you really have enough spare money and are prepared to live with some problems.
