Word on the net is that Microsoft is OK with Nintendo using Banjo-Kazooie as a guest star character.

Just keep in mind, this was only on Phil Spencer's Twitter account, not the official Microsoft X Box page or anything.

It's not impossible. Master Chief and several other Microsoft exclusive IPs are on the Switch version of Minecraft, too.

Out of curiosity, can I ask why so many people seem to want Banjo and Kazooie in Smash Bros. so badly? The bear and bird haven't gotten their own game since 2008, and haven't been on a Nintendo system since 2003. While their games on the Nintendo 64 were incredibly solid and fun platformers, its not like they were "important" in the way some other games and characters were. So what's with the huge demand for them? I'm honestly curious, not trying to sound dismissive or anything, sorry. ><

Same reason anyone wants a character in Smash Bros. really. Liking the characters, nostalgia, feeling they'll have a fun playstyle, etc. In this case many people grew up with them and unlike many characters that people ask for, they actually have a decent shot.

Besides, relevancy has hardly mattered in this series.

I never played them (though I did recently manage to score a Banjo-Kazooie cartridge, so I'll be playing it as soon as I can get access to my old N64), but they were enormous in the 32/64-bit era. People talked about them a lot, and they were widely considered to be the second and third best games on the console, made by Rare at the height of their powers.

Kirby is... definitely up there, especially if some implications from Kirby Star Allies are taken as truth.

Ness and Lucas both become stupidly-powerful psychic beings by the end of their games, and Mewtwo's one from the start.

Ganondorf is the King of Evil for a reason, Palutena's a literal goddess and Pit is her champion for a reason, Samus is a walking arsenal of destruction who has blown up planets, Shulk's sword is essentially a godly command prompt for reality itself, Bayonetta is... I haven't actually played Bayonetta so I don't know just how powerful she is but everything indicates stupidly-powerful.

My favorite Kirby theme was still the N64 one. Same with Yoshi and Ness (though I like both their Melee themes as well), for the same reason: walking bass.

Especially with Kirby, the bassline in the victory theme captures the classic gameboy / NES / SNES sound and really hits what makes the original theme so fun. Also, Kirby's level win theme played with an upbeat tempo and a trumpet sounds better than it does played with strings, at least imo.

My other favorite victory themes: Link's Brawl one, definitely - so epic. Cloud's, with the extra music afterwards. And the victory theme is half the reason I miss Ice Climbers. Pac-Man (I like how it starts as a single tone and gets more elements as it goes on, I guess one of the same reasons I love Ice Climbers'). As a Street Fighter fan I'm obligated to like Ryu's, I think.

Paper Mario: Better off as a custom moveset, someone else should rep the Paper Mario series
King K.Rool: More DK rep is always nice. More villains is even better.

Prince Sidon: I haven't touch BOTW yet so I don't know jack
Impa: I sure as well wouldn't be complaining.
Prime 4 new character: Way too broad on this. Not to mention Metroid doesn't sound like it has solid cast to begin with.
Decidueye: It's been so heavily suggested & requested I would be genuinely surprise if it didn't make the cut.
Gen 8: I gave up on Pokemon, but I'm pretty sure it'll still make the cut as a DLC
Knuckle Joe: Adorable but not likely. Not over Bandanna Dee anyways.
Takamaru: I do like samurai & I hope he makes it in. Apparently some people consider him to be the Japanese equivalent to Little Mac. I have no idea why.
