Do we have this thread yet? Probably, but I'm going to post a variation of it anyway. So yeah, am I the only one who absolutely loves these little things? Right now, my family is sharing our home with cave crickets. Edit: Wait, no! I didn't mean to stop posting there! Stupid save button! Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, bugs or whatever. I think they're pretty cool, except for the ones that try to use me as their personal blood bank. Don't get me wrong, if a mosquito needs some food, I'll allow her to take the few droplets of blood that I probably won't need, since the mosquitoes that do this are apparently just mothers trying to feed their young. What I really can't stand are fleas and similar tiny, blood sucking jerks. It's like it isn't already enough that I'm letting them live in my house, now they want to live on me? Other than that, I've found that most bugs can make pretty chill house guests as long as they respect your boundaries, even is my mother absolutely hates them.

If mosquitos had emotions and didn't spread disease and cause red itchy bumps on my skin, I might be okay with this statement.

Bugs are pretty cool.

At the moment, I'm getting paid to study black pecan aphids. Hopefully, my work will help to kill them better.

As much as I hate them, their efficiency and status as living bioweapons is often something to be admired.

Insects are awesome! Here's a shot I took this last summer of some little black ants "farming" a group of tree-hoppers on the stem of a locust tree in front of my house.

Little fellows would try to murder anything that came between them and their *cows*. Too bad that the cold killed them off sad

[up][up][up][up] I'm sure that they have emotions, to some extent.

Bugs creep me the hell out, and yet I somehow find myself fascinated by them.

I like bugs, except for mosquitoes because the bumps are not fun.

Maybe it's just me then. For some reason I like feeling like I'm doing an act of charity for this irritating, insignificant little creature. I guess not, though.

This one wouldn't go so far as to allow anything to drink her blood, but yes, bugs are awesome.

Speaking of awesome, seen May bugs digging their way from under the ground once. Lots of them. At the same time. It certainly was something to look at - just a minute ago everything been quiet, and now big beetles emerge from the ground all around you, and almost immediately take flight. Frequently colliding with nearby trees or your forehead.

I thought this was going to be about Good Bad Bugs.

I don't mind insects, for the most part.

[up][up][up] That must have been incredible! I've always thought may bugs were pretty cute, though I've never gotten to see one in person.

Yes, it was incredible. Lasted for about hour and half, and then poof - they're all gone. The bugs seemed to be slightly dizzy and disoriented right after digging out, so their fight pattern was somewhat erratic. If you could keep an eye on just one bug, it was possible to notice how it's flight becomes steadier and steadier. They are also pretty tough and determined - after unfortunate collusions most of them got back on their legs and flew up again. Even more erratically, though=)

Wow. Where did this occur? Somewhere I could reasonably visit, I hope. I'd also love to see an emperor moth sometime, but I'm pretty sure those are tough to find in North America.

I see. So it's going to be a few years before I can see it at best. I guess I could probably try to see a luna moth sometime, though those are apparently extremely rare.

Mandatory link for this thread.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, those bugs in the image above are beetle larvae. The "tentacles" are actually their own feces, which they shield their own bodies with for defense.

Yes, I'm serious.
