Is the process of raising a Jiang Shi considered particularly dodgy, morally speaking? Just wondering about that.
Also wow, TD is about 50% politicians. Looking forward to Mamizou, anyway. That's one character that I'm pretty sure I would like if I knew more about her.
So, er... When does the refresher thingy start? Did it start already? I'm rather confused. Either way, I'll be starting work on that Reimu writeup in two days or so. And maybe, say, Marisa or someone if I feel like it. Don't think I can write for many of the others, though, so I'll leave it at that.
Anyway, thank you, Clarste. Excellent idea. I was rather confused about the TD cast, but I kept thinking I was the only one.
Hmm... I have to wonder, what's her relationship with Yoshika like? Master and servent, or mother and daughter?
Also, a bit of Fridge Horror- for Yoshika to look the way she does, she would have to have died at a fairly young age.
I sure said that! It's not clear. Just as personal speculation though, I can't imagine Eiki would like it due to preventing a soul from being judged properly after death.
Based on the dialog, I'd say she treats her like a puppy. "Good girl! Good girl! Now fetch!"
There is so much wrong with this.
...Wait a second. Did Seiga essentially pull a Rasputin on Miko? Gotta wonder how she was so widely accepted, in any case, considering she had a corpse shambling about behind her.
Well, the corpse is a pretty nice person, all things considered.
I sure said that!Well, it's not like she has to bring Yoshika everywhere she goes, if she wants to make a good first impression.
Also, I suppose she did pull a Rasputin of sorts. I'm not sure she was a public figure though. She can walk through walls, so it wouldn't exactly be hard for her to hide her presence if she needed to.

Doesn't it also depend on what kind of a soul is in Yoshika has? For all we know, her human soul passed on and was judged, and Seiga introduced an entirely new animating force into her body.
Some of the methods of Jiang Shi creation seem like they could happen naturally, so Eiki's bureaucracy might be able to deal with cases of Jiang-Shization.

In my head, Yoshika acts more like The Igor to Seiga. That's just me, though.
This requires Scienceiga.
Also, Parsee writeup will be posted once I can do so without stepping on anyone's toes.

I mention this repeatedly, but Taoism is pretty close to science anyway. It accepts gods and spirits as part of the natural world, but is more concerned with understanding and figuring out how to use these things than sitting back and worshiping them. Traditional Chinese medicine and alchemy and gunpowder and such were all derived from Taoism. From our perspective, they were often very wrong, but "ancient mad scientist" wouldn't be a complete mischaracterization of Seiga. And she's definitely more Frankenstein than Newton.
Some of Yoshika's lines (we were revived to protect the mausoleum), seem to imply that Seiga has more zombies under her command. Perhaps Yoshika is just the strongest one, or something. Anyway, she does seem to be a fairly competent magician scientist* .
I approve of necromancy/Seiga. Oh, the possibilities.

Heart of StoneAncient Taoism reminds me a bit of alchemy, in a way: Part science (severely misguided, but nevertheless occasionally successful science), part philosophy, with a small amount of religion tossed in.
It occurs to me that Seiga would be the world's most unstoppable evangelist.
Heart of StoneWhy go door-to-door when you can just stroll right through the walls?
Perhaps I should have mentioned this in the history, but she's considered a pretty mid level Taoist. She'd be considered "unremarkable" in China, which is why she moved. Too much competition.

...In that case, it's probably for the best that we only ever run into her, and not SUPERCHINATAOMERLIN or whatever.
Or the Fullmetal Taoist.
For some bizzare reason, I first saw Seiga as sort of the "man behind the man" of Miko and the Taoist group. Even though she is the first/second (depending on if you count Yoshika) one fought. I still kinda hold onto this.
Clarste mentioned that she was a "low level Taoist". I know that Kasen isn't necessarily Taoist, but I do wonder how the two hermits would compare. (I personally think Kasen would come off better overall, but Seiga would have some trick to give her an unfair advantage. It may or may not concern her latest mad invention of the "zombie ghost".)
OFF TOPIC: I was stalking the main thread once, and overheard the "Yukari is afraid of Eiki" thing. Someone pointed out that it is because, if applied the right way, Eiki's power could effectively "negate" Yukari's power. I believe it might be more of a personal thing. Maybe before she fully gained control of her powers and fled into the gap, she was greatly defeated by the Yama and got a fierce lecture that still haunts her?
While on the same topic, I was thinking about the "Yukari may actually be Maribel's* ancestor" thing I suggested before, and then I had the strange idea. Why can't it be both? Eventually, Mary Hearn becomes a youkai, renames herself "Yukari Yakumo", then uses her boundry powers to go back in time to "start" the Hearn family with their boundary related powers/traits, which would lead to her being born and eventually becoming a youkai. A stable time loop thing.
Now that I wrote it down, it seems silly.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.I'm still wondering what is up with her hair.
TD must be crazy hair day in Gensokyo.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersThere's actually a famous hermit named "Kasenko" who is Seiga's idol, the kind of hermit that Seiga wanted to become. So... I think her relationship with Kasen should be interesting, to say the least.
Edit: What's so weird about hair loopies?
edited 3rd Oct '11 8:42:03 AM by Clarste
Not all TD characters have weird hair. Futo has a very sensible ponytail. Mamizou has an efficient bob. Miko's ears are a bit odd, but no weirder then Byakuren's gradient hair.
Heart of StoneWhat's not weird about hair loopies? Is she trying to be aerodynamic? Is it so that she and Yoshika can do a special shot put attack? Do they receive radio signals? Ancient Chinese radio signals?
Forever liveblogging the Avengers...I think it looks very elegant and feminine.
Clarste, do you make a habit out of shot putting immortal ladies?
Elegant, I'll grant you in the sense that elegance is often divorced of good sense.

Seiga Kaku, aka Seiga Nyan Nyan*

Appearance:Ability:
To pass through walls. It seems she can leave a hole behind or not, at her choosing. Can also use general Taoist magic, including necromancy.
History:
A Chinese Hermit from over 1400 years ago. Dreamed of being a Taoist hermit ever since she was a child, due to her father leaving to become one. One day decided to put her dream into practice, but by that point she was married and needed to fake her death to leave her family. The process she used also fakes her death before heaven itself, so now she's an immortal hermit. However, Heaven dislikes those who do things like abandoning their families so technically she's a Wicked Hermit, not that she's going to put that on her business card. Due to China being saturated with Taoist hermits, particularly ones more skilled and famous than Seiga, she moved to Japan where she managed to secretly infiltrate the royal court and became an adviser and teacher of Taoist magic to the Prince and various other lordlings. Taught the rest of the cast Taoism and advised them to spread Buddhism as a means to pacify the populace. Followed Prince Miko into Gensokyo.
