I tried it first too. The fact that they didn't register as enemies immediately probably helped.
Umbran Climax◊yeah, you should be changing your personality to either get close to people or make them super angry, not role playing Thorton as some particular facet. He's a spy—they're trained to get into people's heads rather than shoot them in the head (though they get that training too)
PS. Heck and I were besties.

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Twitter^Yep, this is basically how the game is able to provide multiple approaches and options for Thorton despite being a fairly predefined character.
As Westridge explains, he's a very manipulative type of guy who is able to read people very easily and able to in turn respond appropriately. Also there's a slight dickishness to all his responses.
@Scythe: Eh, Heck didn't become trusted but he was still liked.(I did do data destroying for him)
@ch00beh: I know, but I want to see what people definitely hate and like so I for sake of doing so play first three like that just because.

Didn't know if this was worth its own thread and didn't think it belonged in any of the Mass Effect threads, but Bioware had apparently planned their own Spy RPG.

Joystiq: Alpha Protocol is the new Deus Ex.
Jonah FalconThat comparison might actually have some merit. Except at least Deus Ex had many of its nasty glitches fixed through fanmade mods over the years while Alpha Protocol still seems a little too buggy with no chance of a mod kit of some sort coming out ever. Both games are pretty good in what they do well though.
I don't remember running into any problems when playing AP. I was about to say "except for the wrong LI on the boat" but then I realized that was Dragon Age II being buggy, not AP, and since DA 2 is a wanabe AP, they both share ending boat scenes and that confused me for .5 seconds.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterCalling Alpha Protocol the new Deus Ex is a little too much praise. It did a few things really well but had some really bad flaws as well and I don't just mean the bugs, while Deus Ex was pretty stellar at pretty much everything it set out to do.
It's more like the new VTMB, does some really great things but is also pretty flawed.
Just a shame it couldn't be fixed with fanmods.

I don't really believe in Alpha Protocol having "really bad flaws"
That's okay. I don't believe in Santa.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet. But he exists, right?

What I'm trying to say is that only babbys have problems with AP.
Umbran Climax◊Nah.

Umbran Climax◊Alpha Protocol as the new Deus Ex. So, we should expect a simplified, actionized sequel in a few years? *runs* :D
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comNah, AP as an IP is dead on water.
Donate money to Skullgirls, get a sweet poster.Especially since Sega is the one who owns it.
Umbran Climax◊It could on worse hands, I guess, but they are in financial trouble, so they are gonna keep making what works for them, and that means more sonic and total war games.
Donate money to Skullgirls, get a sweet poster.... Since when has Sonic worked for Sega?
I mean, I guess the latest stuff like Generations is a gigantic step up, but really?
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Sonic has always been a massive seller.

I think Shaheed being alive is intentional depending on your actions. Mike never checks if he's actually dead, after all.
Also I really don't know why it confuses me that people wouldn't walk up to the guard at the embassy on the first playthrough.
I have to be one of the few people stupid enough to try that first in a stealth game.
