So... why is releasing them a terrible idea? Those two didn't actually do anything wrong.

*puzzled* You don't keep a wild animal in a cage for past crimes committed (Do they get a trial? Possibility of parole?) You do so because the nature of the beast is to hunt and kill any mammal smaller than its head, which includes human beings. Drogon eating someone wasn't a freak accident, it was a wake-up call that, whoa, who'da thought, dragons are dangerous.

If you want to release them into the wild (so they can eat other human beings who aren't your citizens), fair enough. But just opening their cage in the centre of a large city is absolutely the worst of both worlds.

@Kostya Yeah, I think so. I think Moqorro's vision of Euron focuses on his black eye.

There's a pretty good essay that Euron's black eye and blue eyes are representative of him dabbling in both political and magical affairs.

The blue eye is the one you usually see IRL but the black eye is the one you see when peering through a magical lens.

Also Euron could potentially have an all black eye rather than just a dark brown eye that looks black.

[up][up] I dunno about that actually. If I were more chaotic in nature, I'd do it

just to see if those other dragons really are as violent as their eldest sibling

and because fire is beautiful

Bl = King Aerys

Do we have a Jaime Lannister here to stab his royal grace before he leaves this thread nothing but ashes?

I nominate Julian L'Apostate on account of his sharing the same initials.

Nominate a guy using the handle of a Roman Emperor (who was perhaps murdered by his own soldiers in Persia) to do the duties of a Kingslayer...sems legit?

It occurs to me that the real death knell for Ramsay Sue is Euron finally showing up.

"Hey, who are you?"
"I'm a hypercompetent, charismatic, sexy, escapist supervillain with impeccably loyal henchmen who cares nothing for societal codes of morality and who wants nothing less than to watch the world burn around me."

[up] How could you forget Lord Petyr Baelish? The undisputed chess master in the game with his own vale army, near perfect record of successful xanatos gambits, somewhat tragic backstory, willingness to be "King of the ashes" and jetpack?

How Jon's resurrection makes him different.

Ugh, I'm not a fan of this. He's basically the same character but scared of death now.

Wow. Less than a week and that's the cover. I mean, that's kind of a dick move, EW. Are spoilers even a thing any more?

I'm sure I'll get lots of disagreement with this, but I think there was a lot more suspense over whether Jon would come back in the books, at least on the level of the surface text, than there was in the show.

The books have more characters at the Wall, more subplots going on, and Jon's permadeath would, like Ned's, create a new political landscape that would be interesting to see in its own right (in fact I think we will see a lot of that in the short term, before he comes back). If you discount subtextual things like R+L=J and Jon being Azor Ahai, it'd be a lot easier to believe he was gone.

On the show, where else could they go? As mentioned before, there's like 3 characters in the Watch that anyone could name on sight. The only story you could really get out of it from that starting point would be an Offscreen Civil War leading to the destruction of the Watch as a last warning to the realm that Winter was really coming, and it seems too early for that to happen without Dany being around to save the day.

... who would disagree with you on that? There was no suspense about it in the show.

From a foreshadowing standpoint (bringing the Red Witch to him right before he dies), from a meta standpoint (Oh, he happened to be filming something else where they were filming GOT. Sure), and from a storytelling standpoint (like you said, not a lot to do there if he's dead) there was no chance he'd stay dead in the show.

Jon coming back is just as obvious in the books in my opinion. ADWD opens with a Warg talking about second lives, Mel has her vision about Jon being a man then wolf then man again, and there's also Thoroughbred resurrecting Berric in the previous book.

[up][up]Well, more with the idea that there was any suspense in the books...

[up]Is Thoroughbred an autocorrect mistake? If so, it's hilarious. If not, I don't get it.

What's so special about Dany, anyway? I mean, as a ruler. She's got nukes, and a decent amount of moral sense, but she doesn't strike me as especially charismatic, strategic, or cunning.

Nothing. But she's obviously going to be important in the climax, even if you think it's only as a dragon-delivery mechanism. You don't have to like her to see that...

It's not going to help much if she gets herself killed before returning to Westeros through governmental incompetence.

I do like her, I just don't see why she'd have to be Queen, rather than, say, The Dragon-by-proxy to someone who's actually qualified for ruling.

Although the pool of viable candidates is dwindling fast.

Well, Daenerys at this point is the only person that can ride a dragon.

I mean I expect Euron to be the next dragon-rider once dragon-binder is blown.

Also it makes the whole "a dragon is not a slave" line all the more poignant when Euron enslaves one

@The Handle Sort of. I'm speculating what I think is going to happen rather in the books than what will happen.

And I don't expect the show to go this route.
