How could you hide a kid in a suitcase when the people he's hiding from can see infrared and have very good sense of smell?

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.

I remember there was this one episode of Tarzan where he got past a snake's infrared sense by covering himself in mud.

Scent travels through the air, so if the suitcase was completely sealed then the kid's scent shouldn't get out. Masking the kid's scent with a very strong scent might also work.

Well, then, how about some other portable hiding spot? Can you think of anything?

That's pretty big if you have the right genes.

What sort of tech-level do you have here?

If you can get the Harmless Freezing down right, you could always put the kid in cryogenic suspension. No smell, no heat signature.

Modern tech.

... Yeah, you're pretty boned. Unless this is one seriously big-budget suitcase, and who says they won't ask for it to be opened anyway?

Pack him in a lot of cheese and ice cubes.

The people looking for him are tired and just ate some very hot peppers.

How good a sense of smell do you have in mind? If it's anything like a dog's then sorry, you're stuck. Nothing escapes the canine nose (it's one of the reasons why it's just as well they can't talk, if they could you could kiss any illusion of privacy good bye).

If the clothes are noted as smelly, you could use that to handwave the scent. As for the infrared, it can't see though sold objects, whatever Hollywood tells you.

So yes, a suitcase could work.

It would still be notably warmer than other suitcases though, so they would still notice it as odd, at best.
