http://www.guildwars2.com/en/ — Well, my mind is blown, but being a Troper does ruin my life:

A) How many times do we have to kill the people of Orr until they stay dead?

B) I'm getting shades of the Fantasy Kitchen Sink, re:Asurans. "Now, foul dragon, let us do battle... with MEDIEVAL EUROPEAN LASER BEAMS."

C) I want this game so very much.

D) Wait, so all the GW 1 characters are dead? But I heard you can play as your own descendant, so your Hall of Monuments boni carry over.

Your opinions, dear Tropers and Troperettes?

Sounds like someone's not very familiar with GW 1 lore.

A) We've never fought the real kingdom of Orr-we've fought the undead from what used to be its border outposts, but Orr itself was lost beneath the sea for hundreds or thousands of years. Now, via the dragons, it has returned to the surface and is a major threat.

B) You never played Eye of the North much, did you? Magitek is the Asura's hat, and it's explicitly stated to be fueled and operated by magic. Granted, in GW 1, it was mostly their interdimensional portals and golems.

C) I agree.

D) GW 2 takes place hundreds of years after GW 1. Yes, our characters from GW 1 died and things went to hell in our absence. This does raise the Fridge Logic question, however: if we're playing as our GW 1 character's descendant... all characters in GW 1 are human, but we can play as a Charr or Asura in GW 2... for the others, it's at least plausible, if you look up the lore on how the Sylvari originated, and Norns are close enough to human. But the Charr and Asura... squick.

DO WANT.

WANT BADLY.

I I want to play as a Norn, and and a Charr, and and I'm gonna try a Sylvari, and I guess I'll try an Asura, too, and and of course Humans!

Mmm, Charr and Norn are definitely the two races I wanna try first.

Because Charr: Big furry kitty that's gonna RIP YOUR GUTS OUT AND EAT YOUR HEART RAWRARARRARAARARWWARRAWAR

Norn: Hot Amazon Shapeshifter. And from the trailer, there was a Norn in bear form that was a POLAR BEAR. DO WANT.

:D

It just didn't look all that great to me. Yeah, the Scenery Porn was nice, but the plot and the world in general seemed pretty cliché.

I admit that my existing bias against Guild Wars 2 could be clouding my judgement though.

I guess it is.

This Event System sounds pretty interesting, especially since it's in place of a regular questing system. I hope Arena Net can pull it off.

It's an interesting idea, even if it's pretty much the polar opposite of what made Guild Wars fun for me.

^I was lucky enough to play the demo yesterday @ gamescom and it was amazing! Especially for a game in its alpha. They certainly didn't lie in their recent Game Manifesto.

Look at this character creation!

It's like Dragon Age's...screw it, I think it's better than Dragon Age and the character creation was that game's selling point!

Why is there no topic on the video games forum for this game? It's probably a 2011 release. It looks sweet as sin. The battle mechanics look very, very original. It was called the best online Gamescon game. I'd make one myself, but...lurking is fun.

Also Matirx sorry about abandoning my post at the liveblog. Crap happened and internet connection was not possible. Don't think I can come back. :(

EDIT: Oh crap I thought this was on New Media for some odd reason. Never mind.

Whoa. That newest? trailer just redoubled my want for this game. I saw some awesome ability ideas: like what appeared to be an Elementalist creating a field of electricity-laden air or fire, and a Ranger shooting arrows through that field, or from within it, that picked up elements from the field to do crazy stuff.

Plus, amazing animations. Seriously, those raining fireballs, shockwaves, and crushing shield bashes looked stunning. That, and all those effects like bridges and dams collapsing

I guess it's good that I recently trying, again, to make it through Factions and Nightfall. Ritualists are surprisingly fun when done right.

YESSS more Guild Wars! \o/

^^ The character creation was actually slimmed down for the demo simply because you weren't supposed to waste your 40min of demo time with creating your character. Makes me wonder what other customization options (like other character motivations than dead family members and not joining the circus) they'll include - except for appearance of course. For the latter I'd be super happy if they'd use a customization similar to Aion.

^ The whole environment looks fantastic. The sequences look fantastic. The action looks fantastic. And even though I was just playing for 40 min running around and taking part in all this was pretty cool. :D

...Now that I think about it, I hope I'll still be able to run it. My MacBook plays Guild Wars plenty fine with Crossover, but this one may be a bit of a different story...

I hope I can still play a Monk as well as I did in Prophecies in GW 2.

Consider me hooked. In fact I'm considering to play through GW 1 again just to bridge the gap until 2011. GW 2 and Old Republic will be the first MM Os I actually look forward to in years.

I'm just really glad that it's still going to eschew montly fees. That's what drove me to buy Guild Wars in the first place: the fact that it's really awesome was a bonus.

@Enlong: You won't be able to play a Monk like in GW 1. They already said they cut that class out. Every profession has now their own healing skills and supportive spells.

Lots of people are however speculating that one of the remaining classes might be some kind of supporting class that covers what the monk's protection line was in GW 1. Maybe a kind of templar/chanter thing. It could certainly be interesting.

Booooo!

I enjoy feeling like I'm the one thing standing between the party and oblivion.

Then again, making parties a bit more self-sufficient is nice...

Quick question about GW 1. Does the Ritualist spirit Shelter reduce damage from Lifestealing attacks?

Lifesteal isn't damage. So no.
