Exactly what it says on the tin.

Flogging Molly - Float. Good stuff, but not quite to the same level of awesomeness as Within A Mile Of Home. Also, I'm not a fan of mixing music and politics, so I'll probably dock the album another point when I figure out what the heck the references to Iraq are supposed to mean.

Dirty Three - Whatever You Love, You Are. Some nice instrumental post-rock, beautifully melancholy.

I just got a bunch of vinyls for cheap from the flea market!

Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass - The Lonely Bull Artie Shaw - The Complete Artie Shaw, Vol I Benny Goodman - This is Benny Goodman, Vol II Johnny Cash - I Walk the Line Ray Charles - Modern Sounds in Country & Western Music (Which unfortunately is in pretty bad shape. I need to clean it up before I can listen to it.)

The Shiths - Strangeways Here We Come

Only Morrisey undersands my pain )):

jk, eh, my brother was rreally big into the Smiths a few years back, he even got some of the albums in vinyl. Anyway, I saw some of the CD's were for sale for cheap at a shop, so I bought this one, because I liked some songs on it.

Considering how much some of my favorite bands were influenced by the Smiths, I really should give them a listen.

They're awesome, I must admit. There's a lot of Hype Backlash these days, and I don't really like the fanboys (The Smiths fandom is also the one fandom where the fanboys are closer to fangirls).

Some guy at the flea market was selling used records for $1 a piece. Mostly old radio station singles. I got "Sorry and Glad Together" / "An Old Sunday" by The Innocence Mission and "Volare" by the Gypsy Kings. I like both of them.

Also I got an album by a mysterious East European folk band. No idea what they or the album are called because all the packaging is written with the Cyrillic alphabet. In addition to the record, there was a glossy card inside the sleeve. On the front it had a photo of what I assume is an icon of the Virgin Mary and the baby Jesus from some church, and on the back, it had a 1991 calendar. The music itself was nice, but a bit too much high-pitched reeds for my taste.

Judas Priest - Nostradamus

And it's awesome.

Can't wait to see them in concert at the end of next month.

I really need to get In The Court of the Crimson King. Friend of mine played the CD once when we went about running errands, been meaning to pick up my own copy or burn his.

Laineenkasperi - Seis
Aztra - Outoja Päiviä
Rauhantekijä - Suggestio

Just got these by mail today. Finnish rap, pretty psychedelic stuff, mostly, both Laineenkasperi and Aztra (aka. Hullu A) are formerly of the highly experimental grime/hip-hop group Kaucas.

Last digitally found - Dick Brave featuring the Blackbeats: Walk This Way ((linky)) Last bought - Coldplay: Viva la Vida. It's like Coldplay decided to take a few tentative steps out of the little piano-rock chalk circle they've been standing in. Brian Eno should've pushed them harder.

My latest liveblog.

Let's see,

CD: Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Punks. In retrospect, I think this may have been a mistake. I bought it based on "Not a Crime" (a great song), but the rest of the album doesn't measure up. A four-disc set of music by J.S. Bach The Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World soundtrack The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End soundtrack

Used vinyl: Miles Davis - The Man with the Horn. Weird and cool. Fusion jazz. Herbie Mann - Push Push. The Allman Brothers Band - Enlightened Rogues. Very cool.

Download: Richard Swift - Ground Trouble Jaw (EP). Mr. Swift is a nutcase. That said, I really prefer him when he's doing bizarro-versions of the decades he's copying, rather than the exact replications of doo-wop or what have you from this EP. "The Original Thought" and "A Song For Milton Feher" are brilliant, though.

Bought about 20 vinyl records from the flea market. I haven't even finished listening to them all, but I must say that Big Band Bossa Nova is freaking awesome. And I'm not sure what previously occupied the throne of "the single nerdiest thing in my possession", but it's been dethroned now that I have the original Star Wars soundtrack on vinyl.

The last thing I bought was the special DVD bonus edition of Vader's XXV.

Although I'm about to go pick up the dual 12inch edition of Wolves In The Throne Room's "Two Hunters"

In the past month or so I've gotten:

The Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots — I put off buying this for a good two years for some reason, mostly because I wanted to buy it for "Do You Realize??" and wasn't quite sure about the rest of the album. Somehow listening to the whole thing from a different perspective a few years later made me appreciate the sound much better; the sound suits my taste for layered and occasionally over-the-top synthpop while providing a surreal soundscape and occasional profound bits thrown it. As much as I love the titular two-parter, "Do You Realize??" is still a beautiful track and possibly my favorite on the album. The Fratellis: Here We Stand — It delivered catchy pop-rock like I thought it would, but not quite so much as the first album did. This one's kind of growing on me, though. It's nice that the band aimed for a slightly different sound instead of just making Costello Music Mk. 2. Pulp: Bad Cover Version — A single that I found at a used CD store, and so far it's the only thing by Pulp I've found so far without the aid of emusic (for some reason I've lately been getting into bands that are much harder to find here than they probably would be in the UK). "Bad Cover Version" is probably one of my favorite songs by the band so far.

Steen1 - Notinghamin Paskasheriffi
Vaasalaiset Kansiot - Kotibileet
Musta Perjantai - Suodatinpussifunk
Memmy Posse - Aina Vanteilla
Hannibal & Soppa - Pahat Viinit

More finnish rap; Notinghamin paskasheriffi was originally a CD-R Steeen1 made to pay his rent, recorded, 100 copies made, and sold over two weeks, and as a happy ending, his rent got paid so he and his family weren't evicted, yay. My copy is second hand. Vaasalaiset Kansiot (portmentau between Vaasa, my home town, and Salaiset kansiot, the finnish name for the X-Files), oldschool stuff (for finland, menaing, from 2000). Suodatinpussifunk is a short EP by a now defunct group, I got it with the first two when buying this stuff over the mail.

Finnish stuff:

Julma-Henri - SRJTNT Vol. 1 Mixtape
Adebizi & Konna - Korvia Myöten EP
Tykopaatti - Luopioisten Luja

The mixtape seems to have a bunch of old songs and remixes, but also new stuff. Adebizi & Konna are new aquintences, though they did visit on Jontti & Shaka's EP and LP (Adebizi credited as Adebisi, for some reason, on the EP). LL is Tyko's second album, they say the second album is the hardest, let's see.

Foreign stuff:

Ice-T - OG The Original Gangster
Dead Prez & Outlawz - Can't Sell Dope Forever

Ice-T is pretty lul at times, but he's covered by the Grandfather Clause, and for being the OG. DP should be releasing a new album soon, Let's Get Free was awesome, RBG a slight dissapointment (Featuring Jay-Z and three versions of the same song),

[Ed.] I also traded away a Kraftwerk vinyl I had.

The Arcade Fire - Arcade Fire E.P.: Interesting to hear the 2004 verison of "No Cars Go", but it's pretty patchy. Funeral was a huge step up.
