Come to think of it, if you had that "see numbers with colors" quirk and were able to recognize the "42", would you see the colors of the component numbers, or the colors of the 4 and the 2?

It varies.

Synesthesia is freaking weird man, and presents in a multitude of almost unique ways. My brother knew a girl who smelled different things when she heard certain sounds. Gave her close to perfect pitch in some situations, but smelling blood every time you hear most minor chords probably isn't quite worth it.

... What does blood smell like anyway?

Yeah, it's pretty ironic.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

I wouldn't call it ironic really, I'd say more misleading.

It's also described as smelling/tasting like copper.

I heard of copper and rust. The latter is hardly surprising, since human blood contains iron in some ionic or oxydized form, giving it its red hue...

Having tasted blood from cold sores and such before (it's as painful as it sounds), yeah, it's a fairly salty, coppery taste.

I'm sure most people have at least tasted a little blood before from accidentally biting their cheek or flossing or brushing teeth too hard or something.

Randal's right, it's annoying when you see clues of something but it ends up being something else entirely.

I'm not too shabby so far, got 8000-ish, 5000-ish and 10000-ish. But when you see stuff written in Italian, you assume that's its in Italy, right?

Wrong, it's one of the thousands of Little Italy around the world!

Well, I once managed to guess Florida for a place that was in South Africa, but that was because I confused the license plates.

Welp, reached a new low. I guess something was in the UK, but it was on the far east side of Australia, for 43 points.

Then I mis-guessed two places that were also in Australia in reality. Shows how little I know about Australia.

Sometimes you get lucky, and there's a sign saying "Alaska Treasures - Sitka. Shipping available!"

With the featureless roads, a lot can be guessed by the color of the road markings and the shape of the signs. Unless it is a dirt road, then you'd better be good at identifying tree species.

I managed to get right next to a sign once for the longest place name in the world (in New Guinea), so I could wiki that.

Hm. 9340 points. It's kind of a pain when there's nothing that really sticks out or you can tell what country it is but the country just magically happens to be 'somewhere in Russia.'

A lot of areas are really overrepresented. I have yet to come across any place in Africa or anywhere in Europe that's not Poland, Russia or Spain, but have tons of great plains stuff, Mexico and Australia.

I've seen something in Africa, and lots stuff in south america.

Also, "somewhere" in Russia is annoying because Russia is big enough to be a continent. In doubt, guess Moscow I guess.

It does help that it's almost always eastern Russia since that's where most people live.

Oh, and after about a dozen rounds or something like that I finally got one spot in South Africa.

just got one in africa. and another that I THOUGH was africa but turned out to be the MIDDLE OF AUSTRALIA.

also got one on a boat. at first i was all ?!?!?!?!?! then noticed some huts and guessed it was in brazil. (guessed on the wrong river-system though, somehow i missed the amazon)

Also, my latest random road was running along just fin when the pictures ended in a dead end in the middle of some shady looking area so i can only assume the google map people were killed and their car stolen.

I saw Korean on a sign and guessed South Korea, but then it turned out to be some tiny island Southeast of Japan that wasn't even large enough to show up on a map.

Cheating.
