No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Lately, it's the AP 1 on meltaguns for me. Especially when the target is open-topped.

Our worst difficulty usually is calculating damage because of weapon penetration, so what we usually do is just add it to the total damage.

Today was our first game. I can't believe that in almost five hours the marinequisitors didn't kill a single sentient being :(

Somehow I feel I'm doing something wrong.

Moving the Independent Character first during a charge, and actually measuring out the proper movement paths for models during a pile-in. We totally skip those and just push a whole mess of models into a big melee. Sometimes it turns out well, sometimes we groan that it could have gone better due to proper placement.

[up][up] At least your players aren't downing Trygons in their second session.

I'm still bitter about that.

I had my Black Crusade group stunlock and kill a Hive Tyrant in two rounds. The BC version of Righteous Fury allows you to roll a 1d5 on the critical hit charts (damage doesn't actually add up though), getting you access to all the stun effects.

After today session, we have come to one conclusion:

Ithilion is no longer allowed to take Vortex Grenades.

...Wait. Vortex Grenades were passed out!? The spheres of annihilation that move by scatter dice? The grenades so rare and impossible to replace that you need to get a triple signed form by the sector Watch Commander to get access to?

I'm afraid to ask what you guys were fighting...

^This was Weird Warhammer. The wargear choices were "anything and everything", and Ithilion picked up as many Vortex Grenades as math would allow.

Then he proceeded to annihilate a good 100 Ork Boyz, 4 Chaos Terminators, and himself.

Just a small abstract of the first session, in case anyone can get ideas:

The characters obtained their inquisitorial rosettes, along with two "follower patches" (in case they decide to get their own cadre) using the simple method of opening one of the vaults in fortress erioch. It turns out that the system their rosettes belong to had been blocked until now by warp storms that only very recently disappeared. The characters travel there in the "SS Emperor's Good Will", along with a Rogue Trader (who will help them in exchange of commercial privileges), passing themselves as merchants coming from the conveniently distant Gigantus Secundus (a planet made up by the Inquisition for the express purpose of justifying the existance of such large non-mutated humans, for the rare situations when they want to travel with the adeptus astartes without other people knowing it).

Once there, they find out that the millenium of isolation left the system in the border of collapse: of eight worlds in the system, only one (and its moon) is unhabited by loyal imperial citizens, the others: - One inhabited by human tau sympathizers - One is inhabited by orks that are kept in check by a whole SM chapter called the Black Death - One is inhabited by khorne cultists/ daemons - One is inhabited by tzeentch cultists/ daemons - one is a barren rock, no one knows why (probably exterminatus or tyranid invasion, not sure yet) - One is inhabited by the tau

Besides that, the main planet (orbus primus) has its own set of problems: - Two clergy factions accusing the other of heresy, to the point of armed attacks (I was thinking of making both of them heretical, just for the sake of it) - Infighting between noble houses reaching a critical point - underworld gangs getting far stronger, with the gangs having access to xenos technology they shouldn't have

So now the P Cs are into one nice little mess :)

@Crimson Ah. Sorta sounds like the training session another player ran for the rest of the group while I was busy a while back. It started off as Blood Angels fighting tyranids... and quickly degenerated into an excuse to kill everything said player didn't like.tongue

I eventually decided that part wasn't going to factor into the main Death Watch game I'll eventually be running. It also made be decide to use the errata bolter rules; Heavy Bolters are too much of a Game-Breaker otherwise.

So, apparently the next Forgeworld book will be Marines vs Necrons, instead of Tzeentchian Chaos vs Penal Legion IG, as was originally announced (that will come after the Marine/Necron book). Apparently they have a Dark Eldar book in the works aswell, but they had to rewrite it because it was apparently too grimdark. For 40k.

[up]Well, despite fluff, there is pretty much no explicit sex allowed in 40K. Kinda cuts the Dark Eldar short.

Do not be so quick to make foolish offers, Daemon. Araghast too once thought I would be an asset to his cause. Look what has become of him.
