Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane - At Carneige Hall

Best Track: "Monk's Mood", the opener. Earlier I was listening to an album of guitar songs, but I left that in the car and I'm not going to go get it.

Finnish Reggae. Hell, we have a small, but profilic scene over here, and they're not even cover bands.

Haven't listened to them, so can't really say.

Also, like Coltrane, but never really got that much into Jazz after the jazzexpert.jpg's over at /mu/ started trashing Coletrane for being Entry Level Hipster Garbage.

I've never heard of this person, but what kind of insult is "Entry Level"? Are Satchmo or Duke Ellington "Entry Level Jazz"? Is Mississippi John Hurt "Entry Level Folk"? Are the Boredoms "Entry Level Noise Rock"? Obviously he doesn't find the "Sheets of Sound" to be melodic, but that is what makes Monk's Mood such a good track!

Right now I'm listening to the soundtrack of "Baron Of Arizona", but since I'm also watching the images of "Baron Of Arizona" I don't think that counts.

Heh, "entry level" isn't really an insult. Just means it's a fundamental. Someone calling a thing "entry level" is trying to appeal to the snob side of you. Oh, but if you hear anyone say they love Miles Davis without being more specific, that person is full of shit. Miles Davis played every God damn style of jazz there is. Helped invent a few too. You can't "love" Miles Davis unless you love every kind of jazz there is.

And you love every kind of jazz, your musical tastes are...ill-defined. If you love all jazz, you could tell me what the third stream style of jazz is without going to The Other Wiki.

I do (Well, I don't like boring jazz) and I can! But some of my favorite Jazzmen are Third Streamers: J.J. Johnson, Gunther Schuller (who really isn't a Jazzman, but he's defined Third Stream so I'll put him on the list), and especially Charles Mingus. I actually STARTED listening to jazz listening to that kind of music, and worked my way forwards and backwards.

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady might be the greatest jazz album of all time. From the Ellingtonesque orchestrated parts, to the wild free parts, all the solos, to the flamenco guitar breaks. I think I'll go listen to it now!

I'll listen to that or Anthony Braxton - For Alto.

Well, that's exactly the problem. I Know there's a massive amount of variety and subgenres, but I have no motivation to start studying all that just so I could enjoy it.

You're slightly more awesome for being down with the Furious Five AND Television.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Steely Dan. I used to hate Steely Dan, now I love them. I have no idea when or how this happened, but I think it has something to do with growing old and lame.

I don't know, I can't seem to get into third stream. Though I've never heard that particular album; might check it out. I seem to be stuck in the swing, blues, and big band styles mostly, though I enjoy avant-garde from time to time.

KPM Production Music Library - Blood in the Gutter

Yes, I'm listening to music made just for television shows, so producers can use it for cheap. This song is pretty cool, though.
