God I'm hoping it's someone classic. I mean, c'mon. Like Moffat's not gonna wanna work that out of his system before he leaves.

Give us 12 teaming up with Ace.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

That would be the dream, but I don't think Ace would be nessicary bums in seats. Not on the level of say, Cap Jack, Rose, Donna or Missy.

Donna or Rose returning seems somewhat plausible to me. I would love to say Martha, but she never got the fanbase she deserves.

Moffat said at the 50th that he didn't want to bring Rose back since her story's done.

Also aren't the Christmas specials supposed to be more...populist, I guess? In the sense that you're pandering to the entire country and not just the base. So long as you get a celeb or two to show up I reckon they can make the companion whoever they want.

If not Billie Piper, John Barrowman, or Catherine Tate, next biggest celebrity who's done been a companion is... Peter Purves?

I'd like to see the Doctor try to fix what happened with Donna, especially after the Series 9 finale.

I wouldn't mind that, just cause she was my favorite companion.

[up][up]I said before I don't trust the writers to do a proper fix for Donna. I don't think they'd even try to do it anyway.

It could be Captain Jack, as a way of rehabilitating that character after the utter trainwreck that was the BBC/some American company co-production of Miracle Day.

Precluded by the very specific use of the word Companion.

Any other show Missy would be a Companion, though. If Doctor Who was an American production, they'd be all over that stuff like white on rice.

And I asked you before, now that the sole writer responsible for her departure has been off the show for six years now, why don't you trust them?

Because the current writers/show runners were on Davis' staff when he made that decision. And they've said nothing in public saying they disagreed with Donna Noble's mind-rape since then. I already answered that and I've no interest in doing so again after this.

Moffat writing the end of Hellbent makes me think he could fix Donna.

Having Missy in the Christmas special seems like a perfect way to get bums in seats. I'm surprised at the implication that she's not turning up.

Missy not being the companion doesn't mean she won't show up.

It's true. You'd think there wouldn't be room for a companion if the plot was something like "Missy is literally stealing christmas."

Please, PLEASE can we have a "Missy steals christmas" plot.

Thats not really fair. The current writers not publicly speaking out against it doesnt mmean they wouldn't change it

It just means they didnt want to start a shitstorm oversomething they could easily change later on if they wanted to

They weren't staff writers. That's not how writing Doctor Who has ever worked (though Chibnall is thinking of changing that). An episode of Doctor Who is written by a freelance writer with oversight by the showrunner, or just by the showrunner. Writers not involved in an episode only know what they need to know to write their own episodes. As that was a series finale written by the showrunner, no writer but RTD had to know.

I mean.

Davies and Moffat used to exchange a lot of emails.

Still do, actually, from what I can tell. They're buds. Bros.

Moffat suggested that Davies have Jenny live at the end of The Doctor's Daughter specifically because Moffat was having River die in Forest of the Dead. And the Doctor meeting someone important to him that he's hostile against at first then he likes them then they die gets a bit repetitive. And it's sorta fridging. And cliche.

And. Like, I think Moffat, at least, did know about what happened with Donna? Because of the line in Forest of the Dead about how "I remembered everything!" "And then you forgot". It was thematic foreshadowing.

I don't remember the details of everything Moffat and Davies talked about, but I'm given to understand it's a lot. Just because they like each other's work. They ran ideas past each other. Helped refine ideas.

So.

It has been a while, but does the show imply (or have the writers stated) that what the Doctor did was right? For me it was treated as "this is what the Doctor did, why he did it, and the consequences of it." I never got the feeling that we're supposed to agree with the Doctor's actions, or be not allowed to judge them.

[up]Not really sure myself. What I do know is that Moffat all but condemned it in 'Let's Kill Hitler', when Eleven was going through a list of companions — including Donna — to use as a holographic interface to keep himself from dying, and he outright said something along the lines of, 'Show me someone whose life I haven't screwed up lately.' So by that point at least, the Doctor knew that he'd done wrong.

It was less "he did the right thing" and more that it was used as more angst for him. Remember in The Next Doctor with 10 saying "[-] or they forget me. They break my hearts"?

I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again.

I mean, he calls it guilt.

Which does acknowledge some degree of responsibility? As opposed to general angst.

Well, of course there is going to be focus on how the Doctor feels about the companion's dramatic exit. He is around longer than them. The key is making it so its not entirely about the Doctor's pain.
