I really like the titles, the theme's really cool and they look great.
The internet is a waste of time, and that's exactly what's right about it-William GibsonClara wasn't Lady Vastra's wife. Jenny was. There is a difference. Would you let your wife or husband or any other relation die to save a stranger? I know I wouldn't.
The air sharing came across to me as trying to get crap past the radar because showing a proper sexual lesbian kiss wouldn't have flown. On second viewing I think it's fair to say it was intended to show Vastra would give her life to Jenny or something to the effect.
Strax being prepared to shoot himself rather than reveal themselves as being breathers just seemed silly to me though.
Gah. No more Victorian London, please. I'm sick to the back teeth of it. If that means no more Vastra, Jenny and Strax, so much the better.
Otherwise, enjoyed the episode. Capaldi's got it nailed, Jenna Coleman was a vast improvement and the steampunk cyborg was excellently creepy (appreciated the nod to Pompadour and co.).
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.I love the Paternoster Gang. I want a mini-series starring them, or failing that more episodes with them in it. They may not be everyone's cup of tea, but who cares? I like coffee.
Tam, sure but it jut struck be as contrived that out of the three of them it's Jenny that runs out of air first and needs help. Clara and Strax both (just) managed to hold their breath for long enough, why couldn't Jenny?
Now I'd find it equally absurd if we were in such a situation and the same was done with Rory and Amy, it just seems like he wanted an excuse to have them kiss and went with that, despite there being no need for anyone to be kissing in that scene.
I think it would have been workable with something like "I'm not going to lose you, we live or die together" that would have worked as it would have shown their relationship.
And Strax being willing to shoot himself was pretty dark when you think about it.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThis episode has really shown a turn in public opinion on the Paternoster Gang, this is the first time I've heard a large back lash against them.
I'll applaud this episode for expertly addressing the long standing and short sighted dynamic between Clara and The Doctor of 'They could totally bang! But they wont.' It was a very satisfying end to that storyline, with both characters realising they had an unspoken desire they knew was never going to happen; but now find themselves having to face it'll never happen.
Better to die than to be killed in a hopeless battle. Sontarans are picky that way. They don't mind dying in battle, not at all, but dying like that? Nah, they'd pass on that and pass the blaster.
I don't have anything against the gang, I think Strax is bring made to much of a bumbling fool for my taste, and I think that one scene was silly for the contrived nature of the kiss, but I actually like the gang.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI like the Paternoster Gang. Tbh, I'm wondering why the hell Moffat didn't make them into The Doctor's permanent companions for an entire series or two already. Well, just Madame Vastra and Jenny, actually. Not sure I want Strax as a companion.

Strax continues to be hilarious; but I can't see the joke lasting much longer; he's in some dire need of some meat to his character after he lost all of the tragic nature he had in A Good Man Goes To War.
so wackd what is this city of the saved?
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."Yeah Wack'd, it sounds lame and made up.

Sounds awesome and made up.
I am way past tired of Murray Gold. The work print samples made me misty-eyed. His finished score just made me doze off.
I'm a skeptical squirrelI couldn't hear the score over the sound of Twelve being both Peter Capaldi and Scottish.
ah that would be why i never heard of it
also all hail our scottish overlords
I wonder if all those scottish referendum jokes will go over the heads of our american friends
" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."Now that I can actually see the episode in iPlayer and y'know, understand what people are actually saying, I'm actually enjoying this episode a lot more!

I like how they handled the issue of the Doctor now having Caecilius' face, and worked it into both the subtext of the episode and what I assume will be part of the Doctor's character development over the season. The Doctor's dialogue in relation to that was among the best parts of what was a solid episode.
Nice to see that Clara is getting some real conflict with the Doctor, too. Makes her far more interesting right off the cuff.
And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)I liked the throwback at the end with the conversation of 'Chips?' 'Your paying' 'I haven't got any money' Nine and Rose had the same heart-warming conversation not long ago. I've got a feeling it cropped up again else where.
It's strange to think that Eccleston is far enough in the past that we can reference him. He's a classic Doctor now.
I'm a skeptical squirrelSo I've rewatched Time Of The Doctor on BBCA.
...It's actually pretty great.
DOCTOR: "You can't keep using the Tardis like this."
CLARA: "Like what?"
DOCTOR: "Missed birthdays, restaurant bookings. And please, just learn how to use iPlayer."
LINDA: "I bought them."
GRAN: "I know."
LINDA: "They're classy."
GRAN: "They don't have jokes."
LINDA: "Exactly."
GRAN: "They've got poems."
LINDA: "They're more dramatic crackers."
GRAN: "I like the jokes."
When Clara is helping The Doctor open the cracker:
CLARA: "'Extract from Thoughts on a Clock by Eric Ritchie junior'."
DOCTOR: "Is it a knock knock one? Those are best."
CLARA: "I don't think so."
DOCTOR: "Well, read it. Go on."
CLARA: "And now it's time for one last bow, like all your other selves. Eleven's hour is over now. The clock is striking twelve's."
DOCTOR: "I don't get it."

My mom and I have been marathoning Eccleston's season for the past day or so, we're just about to start on The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances tonight. It'll be that season's ten-year anniversary next year. I hope they're planning something.
The only bit I found excessive with Vastra and Jenny was the air sharing bit, because it just seemed absurd, what with there being at least one other person in the room who would run out of air just as as fast as Jenny.
The modelling bit was kinda fan-servicey, but meh, it was the setup for a joke about the workaholic spouse, so I'm okay with it.
