YMMV / Yohane the Parhelion -SUNSHINE in the MIRROR-

Go To

  • Common Knowledge: Referring to the show as an isekai is not uncommon in uninformed circles despite the fact that it has nothing to do with the genre; the series takes place in an Alternate Continuity where the cast of Love Live! Sunshine!! has lived in a fantasy world for their whole lives, rather than anyone being summoned or reincarnated there.
  • Contested Sequel: While the show is generally considered decent, debates abound about whether it is a solid successor to Love Live! Sunshine!! or the Love Live! franchise as a whole, with most arguments concentrated around the dichotomy between the overarching plot and Slice of Life elements, character development, world building, several male characters, and reliance on standard Love Live! story beats despite not being an idol show.
  • Genius Bonus:
    • The flowers that decorate the scenery in Episode 1's insert song, "Far far away", are spider lilies, which also happen to be the signature flower of the city of Numazu.
    • Combined with Bilingual Bonus: A "parhelion" is also known in English as a "sun dog". The dog (or wolf) is a major character of the series in more than one way. In Episode 12 Lailaps is shown to "mirror" Yohane herself, giving one more meaning to the title alongside the obvious "mirror verse" reading.
  • So Okay, It's Average: While the show has great visuals and a strong soundtrack, it is commonly criticized for lacking any sense of a compelling narrative or characters, with any attempt at a long-term plot squandered by haphazard character development and slice-of-life episodes awkwardly spliced in between major developments, causing a lot of potential for the show's setting and characters to feel wasted. The general consensus is that the show is inoffensive but is almost excessively boring and could have been much more than it actually is.
