• Alternate Character Interpretation: Yentl has been instructed in secret by her rabbi father (who has told her that “even heaven makes mistakes”), implying that Yentl may be transgender. Ultimately in the end, Yentl decides to abandon her identity as a woman and live completely as a man.
• Heartwarming Moments: The final scene/reprise of "Papa Can You Hear Me" - Yentl can feel her beloved father's spirit close by on her way to a new and brighter life.
• Memetic Mutation: Thanks to Deadpool 2, it’s been common to compare ”"Papa Can You Hear Me" to Frozen's "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?".
• Retroactive Recognition: Mrs. Shaemen is played by Doreen Mantle, who would later be best known for playing Mrs. Warboys in One Foot in the Grave.
• Values Dissonance: The film does nod to typical conservative views about marriage and sexuality, that would have been held at the time. Yentl mentions that her marriage to Hadass can easily be annulled because, among other reasons, a same sex couple wouldn't be recognized as a "real marriage" to begin with. Also, after Yentl reveals her true gender Avigdor admits that he had been attracted to "Anshel" and thought there must be something wrong with him, a sentiment that would be considered homophobic now, and its implied that Avigdor was attracted to "Anshel" because he "knew" deep down her true gender, despite the way she presented; though Yentl is not trans, the idea of a cis man being attracted to a male presenting person because they are "really a woman" can come off as a bit transphobic.
