YMMV / Went the Day Well?

Go To

  • Cult Classic: The movie hasn't been well known outside of Britain in decades, but people who do know about the movie praise it as a suspenseful, well-acted film that is subtle and nuanced enough with its propaganda message that it's hard to even tell that it was made while World War II was ongoing.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Ivy and Peggy are eighth and ninth in the credits and don't get any really memorable scenes until more than half way through the film. However, they're major highlights of the movie for being likable yet formidable Action Girls.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Wilson and the German paratroopers are initially just soldiers on a mission, however ruthless they are, but their attempt to execute five children to punish an escape attempt is utterly beyond the pale.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Three time BAFTA winner Thora Hird appears in just her second acting role (her first was for a film which doesn't even have a Wikipedia page) as Land Army Girl Ivy.
  • Signature Scene: The kindly postmistress attacking a Nazi with an axe is one of the movie’s most talked about moments.
