YMMV / Wave Race

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The entire Wave Race 64 OST (including the harmonica-driven remix of the main theme in the "Options" menu). The Blue Storm soundtrack is nothing to sneeze at either!
  • Broken Base: Which is the better game: Wave Race 64 or Wave Race: Blue Storm? While 64 seems to be better remembered and popular among many for its easy pick-up-and-play gameplay, there's also a sizable number of players who prefer Blue Storm for its greater depth and more challenging gameplay.
  • Difficulty Spike: The most twitch heavy race in Blue Storm isn't even in expert mode, it is the race you need to get through to be able to race in expert mode! Some of its courses kind of come close but then expert mode ends with a sharp difficulty drop for some reason.
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike: Even putting weather aside, Blue Storm is faster, more complex and requires more precise handling than the Nintendo 64 game. It also lacks the power ups of the Game Boy title despite bringing back some of its mechanics.
  • Sequel Displacement: Yes, there was a Wave Race game before the N64 version.
  • Spiritual Successor: Power Cruising in Wii Sports Resort is the closest thing this game has gotten to a fourth installment. It helps that Katsuya Eguchi was involved with both games.
  • Waggle: A minor example with the loading screens in Blue Storm. When the game is loading, you can use the control stick to maneuver some kind of marble around in the water to create ripples. While hardly the first game to have realistic water effects, it does seem like Blue Storm is trying to further show off the graphical power of the GameCube for its time.
