YMMV / Walled In

Go To

  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Mary, she ends up losing her entire family, her pet dog, her home and her job in addition to being arrested for wrongfully imprisoning Malestrazza and Sam and attempting to murder Sam by plotting to blow up the building with her inside. It gets worse when you consider she would have destroyed her own husband and daughter's final resting place if she'd succeeded.
    • Jimmy, his father and older sister are murdered before he is even born. He is consequently mollycoddled from birth by his overprotective (and abusive) mother who proceeds to use him as a tool in her Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Malestrazza by faking his death, unlawfully imprisoning him and lying to everyone about it for 15 years. Not to mention Sam's arrival puts Jimmy in a position where he is about to lose the only home he's ever known. He has also spent his whole life being forbidden from having any human contact whatsoever with anyone besides his mother and he finally sacrifices himself when he realises his mother plans to kill Sam just to show how far she is willing to go to avenge his father and sister.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Joseph Malestrazza willingly murdered 16 innocent people (including at least one child) for no reason other than a desire to preserve his own architecture which in itself was based on his belief in the use of Human Sacrifice in the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
    • Mary was willing to have the Malestrazza building blown up with Sam inside not just because that's what Sam was there for in the first place but also because Jimmy imprisoning Sam allowed her to discover Mary's Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Malestrazza.
    • Jimmy stalks Sam at every opportunity, tries to feel her up, murders her boyfriend, imprisons her with Malestrazza and forces them to strip, dance and kiss (for which he punishes Malestrazza anyway) lest he refuses them food.
  • Signature Scene: Chances are that those who've heard of Walled In know of it's opening scene with Julie being buried alive in cement. Julie being a child who cries out for her (possibly already murdered) father and the final shot being of her fearfully and tearfully looking up as the cement rises until it is just inches from her mouth then the screen fades to black....
  • The Woobie: Sam is stalked by Jimmy who murders her boyfriend Peter and then unlawfully imprisons her. She is also threatened with murder when Mary discovers her imprisonment and resolves to have the Malestrazza building blown up with her inside. She's also briefly terrorised by Burnett. At least she only gets buried alive in cement in a Nightmare Sequence and not for real.
