The fanfic provides examples of:

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: When Fitz reveals his latest method of escaping to Solas, does he genuinely think that Solas has a chance of escaping and just doesn't know that the later doesn't have the knowledge about the phylacteries? Or does he try to use Solas to seek new ways of freeing himself?
    • When Solas keep Evelyn, who at the time is a Tranquil, with him for two years, is it purely for her protection or also for his own benefits since with his resource, he could have sent her somewhere safe instead of taking her with him everywhere? Does he want to have her by his side because he still loves her and can't bear to be apart, or does he intended to punish himself by always seeing his mistake right in front his eyes?
    • Is Monette truly a coward, as some characters have insisted, or was she trying her best to keep the mages safe at Ostwick? She thinks along the same lines of Wynne in that mages have to prove they can be trustworthy. Does she know about the abuses and turn a blind eye? Or is she unaware?
    • Evelyn herself: Is she a Pragmatic Hero or a Well-Intentioned Extremist? Is she doing the right thing by allying herself with Solas? Bringing the Veil down will cause untold chaos and upend the entire power structure of Thedas. But it could also end the injustices that the elves and the mages face, and cure all of the tranquil.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Fitz with all of his escape attempts, one of which involved him trying to fly out of the tower with his self-made parachute. It ended with him leaving several dents in the cobblestones he landed on but you have to admire his efforts.
  • Deleted Scene: The author has posted deleted and extra scenes as small snippets, in addition to the main story. They include what Solas did in the Bad Future and what happened to Felassan.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Danforth and Fitz are both well-loved by readers for their snarky attitudes.
    • Fennel the cat is also a very popular character despite only appearing here and there in the background.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • Signy is a blood mage. And there was a Templar who died of a bleed in his brain... his killer was never found.
      • It gets even worse when you consider that Anselm’s mentor was discovered to be a blood mage, and the Templars thought that the mentor must have taught Anselm blood magic. While Anselm was not a blood mage, what if the mentor did pass on this knowledge? What if they were the one to teach Signy?
    • What happens to Evelyn in the dungeon is terrible, but what if Solas had never come for her? She would have been tranquil, injured, and her clothes are torn after her encounter with Grieves. What would the Templars have done with her?
  • Harsher in Hindsight: When Solas first meets Evelyn, he thinks of her as “unfeeling and hollow.” Of course, it’s because of his own Fantastic Racism against humans. But it still hurts when Evelyn becomes tranquil and truly can’t feel anything.
  • Moral Event Horizon: The Circles' Annulments. As Evelyn points out, they use the word 'annulment' because it can cover up the real meaning of such event: 'murder', where all innocent people are killed for being what they are, and not even helpless people like Tranquil or children are spared.
    • Grieves allegedly crossed it long ago as the reason he was transferred to Otswick was because he framed and turned a mage Tranquil to rape her, and definitely crossed it when he attempts to rape Evelyn just before she is made Tranquil, which, as a side note, makes the rumors more credible..
  • Rooting for the Empire: By the time the story reaches the Conclave, quite a number of readers have expressed their support for Solas's plan of taking down the Veil. This's because while Solas, and Evelyn by extension, do want to destroy the current world, they have good intention behind it and takes no pleasure in their actions. Not to mention if their plan does succeed, it'll bring long-term benefits for not just the elves but also mages of all races. Meanwhiles, the Templars who act like tyrant oppressing the mages and the Chantry that either encourage such actions or turn a blind eye to it certainly don't endear themselves to the readers at all, even if it did show that there're some good Templars.
  • The Un-Reveal: We still don't know who actually killed the rapist Templar whose death almost caused Danforth to be made Tranquil.
  • The Woobie: Most of the innocent Circle mages whose entire lives are being controlled by people who mostly don't care about them, see them as slaves to be used or monsters that need to be killed. Even their peers who managed to rise through the ranks are often than not turn their backs against them to save the own skins.
