  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Freyja was working with Thor and her brother from the beginning. If not, it's astonishingly convenient for them that she seduced and resurrected the exact man they need to be undead and in an easily manipulated state for their plan to work.
  • Complete Monster: Frey and Thor view mankind's embracing of Christianity as "ingratitude" after their years of protection and resolve to merge Midgard, Valhalla, and Helheim on the day of the "Blood Eclipse", apathetic that thousands of mortals would be wiped out. Thor provides the brawn in the genocidal campaign, ransacking a monastery to obtain the Necklace of Mary Magdalene and crucifying the guardian monk out of spite for his religion, while Frey manipulates Eirick Bloodletter into getting the Horn of Helheim because he was unable to enter the realm. Frey also offers Eirick's brother Beothric more power if he captured his brother and retrieved the Horn, only to poison him once he served his purpose.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Yang, for delivering the best choreographed fight scenes in the movie.
    • King Karl, for his drunken delivery and over-the-top Tent Revival style speech recruiting men for Eirick's quest.
  • Informed Wrongness: Beothric has his army act as mercenaries instead of being as independant raiders. Despite it being basically the same work for much better money this is treated as such a fundamental betrayal of principles that his men betray him for being a Sell-Out. Actually betraying humanity to Thor they don't mind so much.
  • Narm: When Thor kills one of his generals for speaking out of turn, he pulls out one of his eyes. What turns this Squick scene into narm is the eye being very clearly made of CGI and Thor delivering a cheesy one-liner at the moment.
  • Special Effect Failure: There's a lot of really bad CGI. What's really strange is that much of it is completely gratuitous, like when the slop poured out of a bucket is animated instead of just pouring slop out of a bucket. The interior sets are also really bad, like "the stone is obviously painted on paper" bad. In one throne room, the thrones are stools with backs painted onto the wall. The outdoor sets look pretty good, though.
