- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Many fans regard Elizabeth Peters' thinly veiled cameo in The Laughter of Dead Kings as "an unnamed lady novelist" this way.
- Contested Sequel: A lot of fans were disappointed in The Laughter of Dead Kings and felt that the series ended better with Night Train to Memphis.
- Series Hiatus: After producing roughly one book every five years on a consistent basis for a couple of decades, Peters didn't release any new Vicky Bliss novels between '94 and '08.
- Although there hasn't been another book since 2008, Word of God has it that The Laughter of Dead Kings was the last in the series, so despite appearances the hiatus has not been resumed. Plus, following Elizabeth Peters' death in August 2013, it seems highly unlikely that there will be any new additions to the series.
