  • Accidental Innuendo: Here it's revealed that Galadriel's husband Celeborn had the birth name Teleporno. "Celeborn" is the same name but in a different Elvish language. Hilarious in Hindsight because the name certainly predates porn on television by several decades.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • One can argue who is most at fault in the ruin of Aldarion's and Erendis's marriage.
    • Túrin — is he completely helpless against the effects of Morgoth's curse, or is he the cause of his own downfall?
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The Mariner's Wife feels extremely out of place when compared to the other stories. Whereas every other entry is either providing details about the adventures of Tolkien's characters or providing backstory and history for the lands and peoples of Arda, TMW is about Aldarion and Erendis' courtship and marriage. It has no bearing on anything else in the entire legendarium and is never brought up again. The closest thing to an explanation for why it's in the story is that Elendil, the first High King of Gondor and Arnor, was personally fond of the story and made sure it was recorded.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Sauron using Celebrimbor's arrow-riddled corpse as a battle banner. Particularly disturbing because it's something that could easily happen in real life, and you don't have to look far to find comparable examples of barbarism in history.
