YMMV / Tremors 3: Back to Perfection

Go To

  • Contested Sequel: Depending on who you ask, this film is either a worthy entry in the series, or the weakest one of all.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Val’s comment about whether a Graboid could fly as the last one falls off a cliff became less funny after this film established the Ass-Blasters, essentially slimed down, flying Shriekers that carry Graboid eggs. Meaning that yes, Val, they can fly after all.
    • The moment where Burt gets eaten by a Graboid would later be followed up humorously in the fifth film where a helicopter pilot got eaten and too survived, but come Tremors 6 and its revealed that Burt is dying due to Graboid venom entering his body after being eaten.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Miguel and Nancy’s line about Burt being overly paranoid about the Graboids return for 11 years becomes this when it took 11 years for a fifth movie to get made.
Miguel: "C’mon Burt. What’s it been, 11 years?"
  • Signature Scene:
    • Burt getting eaten by a Graboid, followed by Jack cutting it open with a chainsaw to free him.
    • The reveal of the Ass-Blaster, the latest evolution in the Graboid life cycle.
    • El Blanco eating the last Ass-Blaster.
  • Special Effects Failure: Arguably the worst offender of the series. While the practical effects are still used, and are as good as its predecessor, this was also the first film to fully utilize CGI for all the creatures. To say it’s on par with early PlayStation 2 graphics is being very, very kind.
  • Vindicated by History: At the time of its release fan reactions to Tremors 3 were fairly divisive, often criticized for its over usage of bad CGI and its twist in the Graboid life cycle and settings a bland retread of the first 2 movies, deeming it the weakest sequel of the franchise. With the release of the more hotly contentious fifth, sixth, and seventh movies changing up the locations and not giving enough time in Perfection, reactions towards this film have gotten warmer over the years who enjoyed it as a solid entry overall, appreciating the return to the titular town and more lively interactions with the residents.
