YMMV / Transformers One

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: The first trailer ends with B-127 threatening staff in a command post he destroyed to testify that he didn't destroy a door. Normally, this wouldn't be funny, but what makes it hilarious is that it's clear that B-127 has no idea what he's doing.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The shot of who D-16 will one day become, the infamous Megatron, with his once gold optics now red, and his surroundings bathed in darkness, is nothing short of chilling.
  • Memetic Mutation: D-16's If We Survive This line juxtaposed with the final blow dealt by Megatron in Revenge of the Fallen's famous forest battle. The comparisons between those and the Animated/Dark of the Moon Sentinel and Ironhide scenes soon came after.
  • Questionable Casting: The initial cast reveals had mixed reception at best, with many fans comparing the announcement with The Super Mario Bros. Movie. But after the trailer drops, the consensus is that Henry's voice is too light for who would become Megatron, and Key's is too deep for Bumblebee. Hemsworth's performance as Orion has received partial praise for being what's essentially a younger Peter Cullen, but above all, the one performance consistently praised is Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
  • Tainted by the Preview:
    • The focus on comedy in the first trailer didn't go well with some fans, with many hoping that the actual film would be more serious than what was shown in the trailer. Some have even derisively compared it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's divisive sense of humor.
    • While the animation overall has been well-received, the character designs have also drawn mixed reactions, with their faces in particular being called out for Unintentional Uncanny Valley.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • While fans expected Sentinel Prime to be the Big Bad after the casting announcements, the first trailer gives us a glimpse of the Quintessons, to whom he is seemingly playing second fiddle.
    • There is also a blink-and-miss-it shot of a character that seems to be Airachnid, a left-field choice for a film that's mostly sticking to a classic G1 cast.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The film is animated by Industrial Light & Magic, the same company behind the first six live-action films. The results speak for themselves, as while the character designs are slightly controversial, fans universally agree that pre-war Cybertron is unapologetically gorgeous.
