YMMV / Transformers G 1 Prime Target

Go To

  • Crazy Is Cool: Lord Chumley has some impressively insane tools at his disposal. By the time he shows up on a monitor attached to a giant robot scorpion, you've seen enough weirdness to just go with it.
  • Fridge Horror: Optimus hands Chumley over to the Soviet Union, who aren’t likely to treat him with much respect in prison.
  • Funny Moments: At the end of his call with Chumley, Optimus pulls a lever on Teletraan One that detonates Chumley's communicator. It makes absolutely no sense, but it's one hell of a way to end a call.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • One of the traps is a robot spider; this was before Blackarachnia was introduced to the franchise.
    • The idea of someone wanting to remove Optimus Prime's head is rather ironic today, since the Movie!Prime is infamous for targeting (and usually detaching) Transformer heads. May also be a Shout-Out to the comics, where Optimus spent several issues with his head detached and a prisoner of the Decepticons.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Lord Chumley is a big-game hunter who uses his vast fortune to hunt down military vehicles and technology. After stealing a Soviet jet during a test-flight, Chumley decided to add the head of Optimus Prime to his vast collection. With the help of his butler Dinsmore, Chumley lures the Autobots into numerous traps scattered across the city and holdds them hostage in various Death Traps to lure Optimus to his castle fortress. Optimus was forced to go through the numerous traps laid out for him, including a monster Chumley had captured in the jungles of Borneo. He was able to take out Blitzwing and Astrotrain when they interrupted his fight with Optimus, wanting the honor of finishing Prime off for himself. Despite being a normal human, Chumley proved to be one of the more resourceful villains the Autobots have faced.
  • So Bad, It's Good: What many fans think of this episode due to it's Hunting the Most Dangerous Game plot and the increasingly bizarre ways that the Autobots are captured...as well as the best Optimus Prime line ever.
