• Alternative Character Interpretation: The Ad Bishops words of "we are all Bishop" brings up some. Are the Bishops all one entity? Or is he simply speaking metaphorically? The Ad Bishop mentioning "the bishop race" lends some credence to the latter.
• Growing the Beard: The series' animation, dialogue, and stories are considered to have significantly improved since it started.
• Iron Woobie: The rooks were hated by the kings for 62 episode, but remained one of the most loyal, smart, and selfless pieces through it all. This eventually gets them to become the second favorite pieces after they help the White King get out of a particularly hard situation.
• The Woobie: The bishops begin taking the brunt of the kings' hatred after they start liking the rooks, and their moments of dimwittedness only increase it. The queens, who they simp for, also simply use them as cannon fodder and don't care for them. Eventually becomes a case of Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds when one bishop gets fed up and begins planning to take revenge.
