YMMV / Togo

Go To

  • Broken Base: While many are happy to see Togo get his proper due and enjoy the movie for bringing attention to his story, others feel the movie went too far the opposite direction by claiming Balto wasn't the lead dog (something Seppala believed but the actual musher insisted was untrue and was unconfirmed) and leaving out Seppala's spiteful actions towards Balto and his sled driver in favor of making him the only one who was wronged, as while he had a right to be angry, it doesn't excuse his actions.
  • Memetic Mutation: Due to Disney's trend with doing live action remakes of their classic animated films, many joked that Togo was an unofficial remake of Universal's Balto.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • In the movie's closing moments, when Seppala sets off without Togo, Togo who barely survived the journey, manages to get the door open and runs after Seppala, at first limping then breaking out into a full run. When Seppala realizes Togo is on his way to him, he turns and sees a vision of Togo as a puppy rushing to meet him before the film cuts back to the present as Togo cheerfully greets him.
    • Seppala seeing a vision of Togo, who has at this point, passed away, atop a cliff overlooking him at the very end. Max Richter's "On the Nature of Daylight" only makes it even more effective.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The various sequences of Seppala and Togo traversing the icy rivers are both beautiful and terrifying and the infamous blizzard itself is well rendered.
