• Even Better Sequel: Off the Rails due to the large amount of new overall content and improvements to the management gameplay. Helps that it had some plot, despite the loose nature of it.
• Sidetracked by the Gold Saucer: This game is centered around building your own Golden Saucer, and then playing in it! Those roller coasters you built? You can ride them! Those arcade games you set up? Fully playable! The bumper cars? Go nuts!
• So Okay, It's Average: Both the first game and its sequel got "average" reviews but Off the Rails reviews have most critics cited that the mini-games are a welcome addition, especially for multiplayer; however, the game was criticized for its so-so graphics. Critics also cited somes cases of repetitiveness in gameplay.
• Spiritual Successor: To Rollercoaster Tycoon, although it focuses on the experience more than the management, and the building mechanics are greatly simplified with the exception for the coasters and the tracked rides.
  • Can also be considered one to RCT’s rival Theme Park and its sequel on the basis of allowing you to interact with your park beyond the management mechanics.
• Unintentional Period Piece: The soundtrack for Off the Rails is filled with pop music and songs by Teen Idols who were popular at the time (2007), especially Miley Cyrus.
