** The film in general is difficult to watch for a lot of wresting fans due to how accurately it portrays the lives of various 80s and 90s wrestlers after their time in the spotlight is over -- just look at Wrestling/RoddyPiper's breakdown after he had a private screening of the movie as proof. Piper had repeatedly stated that, due to the abuse his body has gone through over the course of his career (not unlike the abuse Randy's body goes through in the movie), he was unlikely to make it to sixty-five, and indeed, he didn't. He died at age of sixty-one in 2015.

* HeartwarmingInHindsight: While this movie and ''Film/BlackSwan'' were originally planned to be connected, it did not work out. Years later, in 2020, Russian animator Anton Dyakov independently came up with a story involving a ballerina who performed in ''Theatre/SwanLake'' and a boxer. His film, ''WesternAnimation/BoxBallet'' earned an Oscar nomination.

This is too subtle to qualify as a Genius Bonus, and it doesn't have enough bases in fact. It's more of an example of Fridge Brilliance.

** In the very first scene, someone praises Randy backstage because he "put [his opponent] over", implying that Randy lost in a way that made his opponent look good.
** When Randy is playing video games with his young neighbor and beats him, the kid says he has to leave. Randy suggests one more game hinting the kid will win. Just like in wrestling, Randy is trying to "give back" his win. Furthermore, the kid Randy is playing with is clearly bored playing a decades-old game and system and is only doing it as a favor to Randy. When talking about the new ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty'', he specifically mentions being able to fight Iraq soldiers. Given the Ayatollah is an Iraq caricature, he's probably trying to get Randy interested in a newer game.

good. In wrestling parlance, "getting over" refers to winning the kid says he has audience's support ("over" meaning "popular" or "well-liked"), while putting someone ''else'' over refers to leave. * UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The film captures the pro wrestling industry of the late 2000s that it's almost like a time capsule. * DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: A cheery film this is not. The unrelentingly bleak look at what pro wrestling can do to the body and Randy's depressing life outside the ring can make it hard to watch.
