* CriticalResearchFailure: When the tournament announcer says one level, and the game screen says another (earlier) level, something is wrong. Someone like WebVideo/TheAngryVideoGameNerd noticing this would make it a run-of-the-mill goof. When '''''Creator/RogerEbert''''' (who was no fan of video games and admitted he didn't get past the second level of ''VideoGame/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles'', which was a game shown in the movie) [[http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19891215/REVIEWS/912150304/1023 notices the screwup]], it's this. In his [[Series/SiskelAndEbert review]] with Creator/GeneSiskel, he even called himself a dummy when it came to video games when pointing out the error.
** The game referred to as "F-1 Dream" (a top down racing game by Creator/{{Capcom}} which uses a joystick and buttons) is actually Creator/{{Taito}}'s ''Top Speed''[[note]]Known as "Full Throttle" in Japan[[/note]], a third person driving game which uses a steering wheel and at least a gas pedal. It continues to be referred to this way in a later appearance in one scene at one of the arcades in Reno.
* DesignatedVillain: The villain of this movie is ''literally the finder of lost children.'' The protagonists think he's sick because he gets paid for it. Putnam is a {{Jerkass}}, but the movie (particularly the boys' father) treats him much worse than he actually is.
* EnsembleDarkhorse[=/=]RootingForTheEmpire: Lucas Barton, of course. A picture of him wearing the Power Glove used to be the image for this page, and in [[http://spoonyexperiment.com/the-wizard/ his written review of the film]], [[WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment the Spoony One]] believes that Jimmy robbed Lucas of his victory at the end by ''somehow'' knowing about the WarpWhistle in the first fortress (whose location otherwise [[GuideDangIt wouldn't be that easy to figure out]][[note]]At least, for a first-time player.[[/note]]), wondering if the finals were crooked.
** Of course they are. One Website/YouTube video pointing out the film's many mistakes shows that Jimmy's score actually increases by several thousand points when he ''loses a life''.
*** [[FridgeBrilliance That might have been a rule for the Video Armageddon Tournament that likely applied to all three of them.]] After all, they all need to be given an equal chance to win. As for Jimmy knowing about the WarpWhistle, that's another story...
** There are also people who root for Putnam, both because he's a bit of a DesignatedVillain and he's noticeably funnier and more sympathetic than the kids.
* FamilyUnfriendlyAesop: Aside from the relentless AdultsAreUseless. According to this movie, it's okie-dokie to exploit your little autistic brother into winning money for you.
** Wasn't this plot point inverted in a [[Film/RainMan more successful movie for adults?]]
*** And it's also okay for minors to walk and hitchhike from Utah to [[MemeticMutation Cawwwifffohneeeyaaaa]], by themselves.
*** Or to accuse a guy, who is just trying to do his job, of [[PaedoHunt child molestation]]. Even if he ''is'' kind of a douche.
*** Also, it's okay to cheat, as long as it's using the Nintendo Hot Line for video games.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Back when this movie was new the main reason to see it was the preview of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3''.
* HarsherInHindsight: Corey's response to Lucas's infamous "Power Glove" line: "Yeah, well, uh, just keep your Power Gloves off her, pal, huh?" is now this since Jackey Vinson (the actor who played Lucas) has [[http://www.homefacts.com/offender-detail/NY20653/Jack-Vinson.html been convicted of child molestation]].
* HilariousInHindsight: The Power Glove really ''was'' bad, however Lucas is using slang, so he meant "cool".
** The fact that Lucas shares his name with two actual Nintendo characters because of ''VideoGame/{{Mother 3}}'' and ''VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl''. Furthermore, [[http://pkloveomega.deviantart.com/art/Claus-in-the-Wizard-160533464 there's a redheaded boy with an yellow-and-blue striped shirt]], just like the former's twin brother, Claus.
** The film being a blatant advertisement for Nintendo products is this as Universal will market Nintendo products once again in [[Ride/UniversalStudios their theme parks]] very soon.
* MemeticBadass: '''Lucas'''
** [[WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic They say he's less than a god but more than a man.]]
** He can win a video game just by looking at it.
** He can actually use the Power Glove and ''win''. That says it all.
* MemeticMutation: "I love the Power Glove. It's so bad."
** "Cawwwifffohneeeyaaaa."
** "You got 50,000 in ''VideoGame/DoubleDragon''?"
** "HE TOUCHED MY BREAST!"
* MostAnnoyingSound: Cawifohneeeya
* {{Narm}}:
** Lucas is pretty much a walking Narm due to how awesome he's portrayed.
-->''"I love the Power Glove. It's so bad."''
** Jimmy is also a good example thanks to how much of a dramatic cliche he is.
-->''"Cawwwifffohneeeyaaaa..."''
* [[SoBadItsGood So Bad]] [[SugarWiki/SoCoolItsAwesome It's Awesome]]: The movie is awful in all the right ways.
