YMMV / The Twilight Zone 2019 S 1 E 7 Not All Men

Go To

  • Anvilicious: While no one is arguing that violence against women isn't a terrible thing, making the point by depicting almost every man on the planet as an inherently and aggressively misogynistic monster that's waiting for an excuse to act out on their suppressed urges is akin to taking subtlety out back and shooting it in the head. It's also horribly misandristic, needless to say.
  • Don't Shoot the Message: The episode was supposed to show hypermasculinity from a woman's perspective but it's shown in such a black-and-white, overexaggerated way that people felt more insulted than enlightened. The episode portrays sexism and misogyny as just part of male nature that only needs an excuse to come out.
  • Fridge Logic: Even if you accept the episode's premise, it beggars belief to think men could all turn spontaneously violent in the same way instantly. Did they all somehow have identical thoughts about going berserk before they decided to act out on their own when the meteors fell?
  • Narm: As Annie and Martha navigate the riot gripping the town, a stranger runs past them and cheerfully yells, "Crazy night, huh?"
