YMMV / The Twilight Zone (1959) S3E10: "The Midnight Sun"

  • Harsher in Hindsight: The whole episode, especially the ending with the melting painting, feels a lot scarier in an age where a greater concern over global warming regularly gives us images of melting ice caps, uncontrollable wildfires and other forms of extreme global destruction due to the Earth getting hotter. The fact that this came out in the 1960s, around the time mass pollution was becoming a huge problem, makes it all the more eerily prophetic. This probably explains why the 2009 Comic-Book Adaptation cuts all the references to the Earth falling out of orbit, leaving the reader to infer that global warming is the cause of the pending apocalypse.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The melting paintings, which were accomplished by a remarkably simple trick — they were painted on hot plates, and when the time came to melt them the plates were turned on.
