YMMV / The Twice-Dead King

Go To

  • Ass Pull: In Reign, the Imperium just show up in the ghostwind with no explanation, despite the book making a big deal about how difficult getting into it was. Plus, they somehow are able to navigate it better than the Necrons, none of which is properly explained. Oltyx does ask whether the humans would be able to follow them into the ghostwind, but gets a cryptic answer that is quickly brushed over, and the exchange doesn't come up again.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Oltyx's learning that Djoseras, whom he has just reconciled with, has died - by inference when the kingship of Ithakas passes directly from Unnas to him. He earns the crown not only over the corpse of the father he hated, but of the brother he loved.
    • Oltyx's confrontation with Unnas after breaking his exile despite being promised a death sentence is heartbreaking. He'd spent centuries hating the Dynast for his exile, but when he returns and sees the once powerful royal degraded into an insane, miserable flayed one, "It was a new sensation, so it took a second or two, but in the end recognition came all at once. He missed Unnas, who had once been his father."
