• Nightmare Fuel:
  • When the Toa initially arrive on the island, Gali, Lewa, Kopaka, Pohatu, and Onua arrive safely via their canisters landing in the sea. Tahu, however, lands in the middle of the island and the ensuing impact results in him nearly dying until the Matoran and Vakama fix him. And them immediately after, Makuta uses his weakened mental state to cause him to hallucinate and briefly go mad.
  • The Bohrok are more terrifying here than they are in canon: A combination of the canon Bohrok, Hordika, and Vahki, they are mutated Matoran who used as the security forces of Metru Nui, and have been kidnapping Matoran before and after the Makuta turned on Mata Nui. We get to how a Matoran in the process of transforming into a Bohrok looks, and it's not pretty.
  • Makuta's possession of Kopaka. Preying upon his insecurities and introverted nature, Makuta takes control of Kopaka and nearly defeats the Toa, all while Kopaka is forced to watch as Makuta attacks his comrades using his body.
  • The ruined Metru Nui becoming Makuta's lair. Instead of Mangaia, Makuta instead turns Metru Nui into his own personal Mordor, and tears down all the contributions that the Matoran had worked for in the process, leaving it a shadow of its former self.
  • Easily the most horrifying moment in the comic: the destruction of the Great Spirit Robot.
    • Like in canon, Makuta strikes against Mata Nui by sending him into coma by shutting down his body. Unlike canon, however, the resulting shutdown of a robotic body leaves it unable to perform the functions needed to sustain it. It results in an explosion that destroys Mata Nui's entire body save for his head and right hand, and puts him in a Heroic RRoD.
    • Extreme Fridge Horror kicks in for any fan who grew up with BIONICLE and remember its later years, with how it established all sorts of factions, species, locations, etc. that all existed within the Matoran Universe. The Dark Hunters? Order of Mata Nui? Races like the Vortixx and the Skakdi? Beings like Artakha and Karzahni? If they had any counterparts here, they likely all died in an apocalyptic cataclysm. And to make matters worse, not even Makuta intended for this to happen.
