• Ho Yay: Medina has this with practically every other male character in the book.
  • Greenslade calls him "the handsomest thing in mankind since the Greeks".
  • Macgillivray says he was "enormously attracted" to Medina on the few times they met, and adds that Medina is "the handsomest being alive".
  • The rather disturbing mutual Ho Yay between Medina and Hannay is especially notable. During their first meeting Hannay takes the time to describe Medina's eyes in detail (and calls them entrancing!). Afterwards Hannay says, "[Medina] fascinated me as a man is fascinated by a pretty woman".
• Nightmare Fuel: Mary's description of what she's going to do to the bad guy makes the good guys quake in their shoes.
