YMMV / The Soldier

  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack by Tangerine Dream is every bit as awesome as you'd expect from them, particularly the opening theme and the ski chase cue.
  • Fridge Logic: How does everyone get away at the end? Susan would presumably have been handed back to the Israelis, but what obligation would the KGB have to spy-swop a 'deniable' American agent? Also the Soldier's Force would have been holed up in that ICBM silo for several hours before the news on the radio verified that the US hadn't attacked Israel, surely enough time to organise more than a single helicopter to respond.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: When discussing whether the US can throw the Israelis off the West Bank by force, a war game is mentioned involving a simulated attack on Iraqi oil fields by US troops, which predicts that the Iraqis would kick the ass of the attacking US forces. The movie was made after the failure of Operation Eagle Claw, when faith in US military strength was at an all time low. Nine years later a revitalized US military would curb-stomp the Iraqi military in Operation Desert Storm.
